Looking Good - Who makes the effort?

Relationships whether married or not are important to us all but in a relationship who makes the effort to look good or should we?. A few days ago a Grandma friend of mine said “I don’t bother for him any more, he’s lost interest” I found that strange, my wife is much younger than me and yes I make the effort. I wear things that I think makes me look good, I work out as I get beyond my 62 years I will continue. What about you guys? Do you think like me or the opposite and does it make a difference to you or is it a waster of time bothering.

I’ve no problem with being addressed as ‘guys’ Grand2dogs it’s very usual now, a friendly greeting, imo carry on.

MrsKen33

Besides which Grand2dogs most of us are not ‘guys*. We are ladies or women.
I am not male and in no way connected with a bonfire

I'm not a guy either so can't really answer.

MrsKen33 Thu 28-Dec-23 16:10:17

Each to his own eh?

Apologies didn’t mean to offend

Callistemon21 Thu 28-Dec-23 17:11:07

I showered, blowdried my hair, perfumed, put on full makeup including false eyelashes, best dress and high heels then spent the day cleaning and working through 7 loads of washing.

But at least I look utterly gorgeous 🙂

Not offended Grand2dogsthat is too harsh a word. Just dislike being called a guy.

Callistemon21 Thu 28-Dec-23 17:24:26

I'm not offended either but I just took a look at DH and what he's wearing.

🙂

Oh lighten up.

Callistemon21 Thu 28-Dec-23 17:36:52

I must take DH to task, he's wearing ancient, faded chinos and an old polo shirt.
At least he's brushed his hair (what's left of it,)

MrsKen33 Thu 28-Dec-23 17:43:36

I’ll burst into flames rafichagran. ….shall I ?

It’s good that you are getting your confidence back. I lost mine years ago after a very abusive marriage but gained it back plus some!

It should be nothing to do with being in a relationship? Making the effort to feel and look good is all about us and our self esteem. I make the effort, for me.

This I agree with.

But, but, I saw you through the window and you had your trackies on and hair like Ken Dodd so don’t come it!😂

I think in any relationship, that if one person makes an effort and the other never does they need a bit of a talking to.

grumppa Thu 28-Dec-23 18:23:01

I always try to look smart and suitably dressed for the company I am keeping. [Note to self: must polish these shoes.]

kircubbin2000 Thu 28-Dec-23 18:42:42

This is the first Christmas I have not got dressed up and no one seemed to care or notice. My son said its only us.
I have put on so much weight since covid that my nice things don't fit and I noticed other gran had a new outfit.
I will try and lose some weight now but hard to do with the bad hip.

I'll scrub up tomorrow because we're out for dinner.

Grand2dogs It's good that you take care of yourself. I'm glad you're feeling better than you did - I have ANCA-positive Vasculitis (legs, feets, hands) so gained weight on steroids (13 weeks of them) this year. I can't wear high heels, but I have my hair done (coloured), wear make-up and perfume every day, and wear colours that suit me. I do those things for me, always have done. My husband of 43 years still finds me attractive, anyway smile

Grand2dogs Fri 29-Dec-23 07:07:28

Hi Quote HowVeryDareYou2, that’s me too GPA ANCA positive when I was diagnosed instead of thinking bad things I went out and bought a new push bike and started a low carb plan to reduce weight gain. It worked! I just wanted to still be me. Good luck.

I dress appropriately and for my lifestyle, which is outdoorsy. So trousers, sweaters wellingtons (this time of year), Barbour, hat and gloves. No makeup, but skin care, nor usually jewellery.
Indoors trousers snd sweater, no makeup but skin care.

If I’m going out - it depends - so to a casual restaurant, it will be smart casual stuff jewellery, skin care - no makeup.

Smart restaurant or theatre, party etc - usually a dress with jewellery, makeup, dressier coat.

Special evening do - black tie do - so then it is an effort getting an evening dress out of it’s box etc. 😡 so yes then I make an effort I suppose.

I am happiest in my outdoors stuff.

I don’t “make an effort” although was amused that personal hygiene was considered doing so!

I simply dress appropriately.

Grand2dogs you can call me a guy anytime you want I don’t mind the greeting and use it myself it’s in pretty everyday use now and covers all genders The people that don’t like it, connect it with the old male version of a guy being a male form and haven’t moved on
Anyway back to the question I think it’s important to keep in style and keep yourself looking as good as possible I shower and wash hair every morning and never go out without a bit of make up and earrings on, ( nothing heavy) would feel naked without my earrings
I don’t have expensive clothes but keep up to date with the fashion of the day ….but not young peoples stuff like torn jeans or crop tops (😂)
The other day a friend spoke to me about colouring hair something I ve never done I said what on earth made you think I coloured my hair I ve never done it in my life she said well you always so trendy I presumed you did A complement indeed

I have no man in my life I dress for me and to make me feel good
Carry on looking after yourself it’s important for our well being
