I have never 'dressed up' to attract a man, so it follows that I have never had one to slob for after I had 'caught' him.
This, however, doesn't mean that I have never formed a partnership or got married. It means that all my relationships have been based on the mutual attraction of equals, and, since I have always been economically independent I have never needed a man for his income. I am not now and never have been a kept woman.
I was brought up to believe that dressing well, which has nothing to do with expenditure, and looking well-kempt, for either sex (as it was in my youth) was an essential part of self respect.
I have always respected myself, I have always dressed well (hoever you define the word)
