Fed up of seeing Acronyms in comments

I assume you're new to this site.

It's an agreed shorthand amongst Gransnetters and saves time.

Drives me bonkers too Granygrunters but I just have to go with the flow and accept that even highly intelligent people play bonkers games sometimes
I just refused to use them and grit my teeth and keep quiet when others do write in double Dutch as I ve been told to do when I ve had a previous grumble
My previous boss used to call it alphabet soup I just think its laziness or trying to be trendy nit sure which

I don't like them and will not read a post with too many, you cannot help reading the ‘dear’ which I particularly dislike.

Thank goodness there are some people like me, I think it is a very lazy way of writing. I also think that is why people have no idea how to spell because they are always shortening words and if I do see comments with DD, DH, DS etc. I do not read it. It drives me bonkers.

Well, I think it is just laziness. I am a very fast typist, I was a shorthand typist in the 60's and I can type Dear Husband faster than pressing the Caps lock on the keyboard and typing DH.

Hi mumofbadboys, I disagree, it is not faster. Pressing the caps lock and then typing DS takes me longer than typing Dear Sister.

Perhaps many of the people who comment are slow at typing and think by using Acronyms makes it easier.

I agree, it is pure laziness or perhaps some people are very slow when typing.

AFAIK it is is about using an appropriate style of writing for the genre concerned. IMO that shows a highly developed command of literacy. FWIW I don't see it as laziness, just moving with the times. HTH.

I have never trained as a typist, therefore my typing is relatively slow. Acronyms online originated in the days of text messages, when there was a limit on character numbers, to keep costs down.

Do acronym-haters also type out National Health Service or British Broadcasting Corporation instead of NHS or BBC?

I agree, some comments have no commas, spaces, paragraphs etc. I just don't read them. I think the English language or the Queen's English/King's English has gone the way of the old steam trains.

I don't mind acronyms, but I don't read long posts without paragraphs or worse without full stops.

Perhaps if you have just joined the site recently you ought to accept the way we do things? We don't insist on acronyms so feel free to write things fully if you wish. No-one will criticise you.

That is exactly my point, using short cuts for words have turned our children into illiterates and don't get me going about their spelling.

I could not care less what other people think, I was just stating that Acronyms are a lazy way of writing and if that is moving with the times then I will stay my usual boring self and never forget how to spell or speak the King's English.
