WHY ARE THREADS' HEADINGS BEING CAPITALIZED?

Just that. It's rude.

TerriBull Tue 02-Jan-24 06:51:20

I started the book one with caps, merely for emphasis and to draw attention to it for those who had expressed an interest in partaking in this thread. I don't see titles in caps as rude, although random caps in a post, depending on context, could be deemed as rude and shouting.

Curtaintwitcher Tue 02-Jan-24 07:01:11

Apparently, it is considered rude to use capitals. It is seen as the equivalent of shouting.

BlueBelle Tue 02-Jan-24 07:30:11

Well just scrolled through the news feed and apart from this one I can only see yours Terribull and as it not about a controversial subject it’s obviously made for attention and not shouting
So personally I think you sassysayso have increased the problem you are worried about by a third 😂so a little bit back firing

sassysaysso Tue 02-Jan-24 07:34:14

On my feed there are six other threads where the subject is capitalized, at one stage they were all bunched together. Very ugly.

tanith Tue 02-Jan-24 07:38:24

I only see 2 and one with the first word capitalised one of those is this one. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Many of the games have headings in capitals. Hide them if it bothers you.

Freya5 Tue 02-Jan-24 07:47:45

Oh dear me. Much ado about nothing. If someone wants to shout let them. Is it all quiet and nicey nicey in everyday life. Perhaps that caps lock is stuck!!!!! ☺

TerriBull Tue 02-Jan-24 07:58:52

Thanks Bluebell that was my intention. When we were winding up the '23 book thread, quite a few people said they were looking forward to the new one; which I fired off quite early New Year's Day and then I wondered whether some might miss it, which is why I gave the title some emphasis, probably unnecessary. I can see that the caps do look a bit ugly, maybe I should get it changed hmm

Allsorts Tue 02-Jan-24 08:13:55

I’ve never noticed any in capitals.

Marydoll Tue 02-Jan-24 08:16:07

I don't think it's rude, Terri. Please don't let it bother you.
It might be rude, if a whole post was in capitals, but not a heading. When I see a heading in capitals, I just assume it is a literary device used for emphasis and to attract attention, which I think you were trying to do.

Parsley3 Tue 02-Jan-24 08:16:21

No need to explain TerriBull. It's only one person's opinion.

Clawdy Tue 02-Jan-24 08:22:06

The whole format of the forums has changed on my tablet now - totally different font. Anyone else?

Just like this one sassyetc ?
(Having deleted Games threads) I see precisely 2 and one is yours.

You couldn’t make it up.
Do some people have nothing better to do at 6.30 in the morning?

fancythat Tue 02-Jan-24 08:46:13

This is the 2nd or 3rd thread where people seem to be out of sorts.
Not quite the normal amenable GN.

Presumably just the time of year.

I am partly staying away.
Dont wish to get drawn in.
Want peace!

Juliet27 Tue 02-Jan-24 08:49:01

Not a good start to the new year is it.

fancythat Tue 02-Jan-24 09:00:48

No.

Elegran Tue 02-Jan-24 09:05:10

Apart from several Games threads, which have been there in capitals for ages without anyone getting hot and bothered, I can see "SCABIES!" and "AGEING PARENTS" as well as the book one and this. I can understand the scabies being capitalised as a warning, and ageing parents do bring out the same kind of feeling as scabies in some posters. That doesn't add up to an awful lot.

OldFrill Tue 02-Jan-24 09:08:16

Good grief

JustinJames Tue 02-Jan-24 09:51:10

that's good.

NannyJan53 Tue 02-Jan-24 09:51:33

This is the only post I have seen that has Capital letters in the heading??

Spinnaker Tue 02-Jan-24 09:54:28

Dearie me have we nothing better to get worked up about ? Back in the day when learning to type (RSA standard), all headings, once centralised (one backspace per two letters) were in capitals.

henetha Tue 02-Jan-24 09:57:45

It's not really important. I always thought capitals meant shouting on here. But it doesn't bother me much.
Happy new year smile

Exactly! I agree.

Is this really something to complain about? ‘Very ugly’? I don’t look at GN expecting to find beauty and harmony in the layout of threads.
