The singer who calls herself Madonna has a voice like a Disney character - a cartoon. True, she's sold a lot of squeaky tunes but how?

Theexwife Wed 03-Jan-24 14:21:03

Why? Probably because she sold 70 million albums so was very popular.

Grandmabatty Wed 03-Jan-24 14:24:29

Why not indeed! Madonna has been an artiste since the 80s. She has constantly reinvented herself and is incredibly popular. She has sold millions of records therefore others like her 'squeaky voice.' I'm not a big fan of hers, however I can respect a woman who has made a career for herself which has lasted so long.

I can't stand the hideous old bag! It ''wears'' as little as possible, poses with it's legs wide open, is convinced it's god and creates things, is cheap and crappy and repulsive and couldn't sing if it's life depended on it!

I can't understand why anyone would want to celebrate it!

That is only your point of view which of course you are entitled to. She has been quite successful so I guess there are many people who would not agree with you and are likely to enjoy the programme on Radio 2.

I agree with you there, Grandmabatty. I may not be a fan of hers, but I can recognise the contribution she's made to music over quite some considerable period. As you say, she's constantly reinvented herself and is one of the biggest selling artists of the past 30-plus years.

Still is the Theexwife and her tour last year was sold out. Someone of her back catalogue tracks are classics and I like them, as do many others.

It!!!!!

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 03-Jan-24 16:41:44

She’s absolutely not my cup of tea but obviously she’s popular with many and has had a long and successful career.

AmberSpyglass Wed 03-Jan-24 17:07:01

God, some people are vile and miserable!

Galaxy Wed 03-Jan-24 17:10:02

Using it to describe a woman is misogyny on speed.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 03-Jan-24 17:11:49

That’s a shocking post Spuddy.

Callistemon21 Wed 03-Jan-24 17:14:47

Amberspyglass and Galaxy 👍👍

I agree Germanshepherdsmum

Just vile.

Madonna's not my favourite pop star but she's certainly successful.

Love her early hits but I don't listen to Radio 2. Shame, as I'v been busy at home and would have enjoyed bopping around. When my daughter was little she used to sing "Bubblegum Street " instead of "Papa don't preach".

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 03-Jan-24 18:02:37

Ooh I like a bit of Madonna...I see that I'm in the minority here!

Galaxy Wed 03-Jan-24 18:16:09

I liked a lot of her early music.

Smileless2012 Wed 03-Jan-24 18:31:16

What a horrible post Spuddy.

hollysteers Wed 03-Jan-24 18:41:54

Not a great singer, but an ambitious clever performer who has looked to the very best around her to create what she wants.
I don’t enjoy watching or listening to her myself (not my generation) but I certainly envy her organising ability.

Well, I suppose she's not nearly as miserable as Adele - but it's a close thing!
