Good Morning Thursday 4th January 2024

Good morning all from a wet Glasgow, where it is 8°C. This rain us relentless.

Yesterday, I went down to Mass to catch up on a few things. On the way home, I stopped at the local card shop, looking for reduced Christmas goodies. My haul included;
* twenty, large luxury cards
*nine rolls of wrapping paper
*four rolls of festive sellotape, complete with dispensers
*packet of gift tags
* a bracelet for Dollie.
It came to the princely sum of £5.37, I was well pleased! 😂

We took down the trees, despite usually waiting until twelfth night, but I just wanted to get back to normality.
Also at last a missing parcel turned up. It was supposed to be delivered last week, but somehow Royal Mail sent it to the Isle of Bute! Even our postman was flummoxed.
He also told me I had a letter from my local hospital, which I don't normally attend. I asked him how he knew, he said the postmark is always blurred!
It turned out to be an appointments for a shingles vaccination, because I am immunocompromised. It's odd because my GP said I were discussing this a few weeks ago. However she said I would need to see my rheumatologist to organise it, but I hadn't got round to it after my latest appointment was cancelled again. Coincidence or not?

Baubles, I have been having Dexa scans for over thirty years and have never been advised to stop my medication prior to having one. In fact I had one in the summer, done by two radiographers and nothing was said. Very strange. My curiosity is piqued.

Not a good start for me, I overslept. Didn’t wake up until 7.45 and I have to be at work by 08.30.

It was either a 6 mile walk today with U3A or yoga so I'm going to yoga. My arthritic hip and sore back won't allow long walks. 2 miles yesterday was hard enough. The waiting list for hip replacement is 2 to 3 years. I am on it

Good morning from a dry and bright Oxfordshire, I was drenched yesterday morning when I took the dog out, in the afternoon when I took her out again, I was freezing, the weather had changed to cold and windy, I’m not expecting the dry weather to last very long today.
One more spare bed to strip and the bedroom to sort out and I should be back to normal house wise, then ironing to do. That will have to wait until later as I have a parcel to post and a prescription to collect, we will have to go the long way around as both roads are flooded. Yesterday all we could hear was chain saws from fallen trees being cleared.
I’m trying to clear our freezer and store cupboards so only fresh food to be bought for a while, so I must remember to get some bread and milk when I post the package.
Then I am determined to start my Christmas jigsaw.

How frustrating baubles
A bit of a later start for me today as we’ve got DGD here for a sleepover and she’s still fast asleep. I think the recent late nights have caught up with her as well as me. When we’re up and ready we’re picking up her brother and then taking them both swimming. Not sure what time they’ll be going home at, will how good they are!

Good morning from a blue skied Black Country, where it seemed to rain all day again yesterday!

Mum enjoyed her lunch with some of the family yesterday. As usual she had Fish n Chips. As she opened presents she always says the same thing 'I'm not used to this'. She still remembers her childhood when she rarely had presents. Probably had 70 years of being spoilt, but still not used to it

Today my Thursday walking group, with no doubt a coffee stop half way. Then start packing for our holiday to Gran Canaria on Sunday.

Good morning from Durham. Yesterday’s dry day gave way to heavy rain later - let’s see what today brings. I have Little Dog here to walk, then taking him home later and will then child mind DGS2 again for a few hours. I have DD2’s laundry to do, so I’ll crack on with that now.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 5° and dry at the moment. Much calmer weather too. Lots of you clearing out fridges and food cupboards! I feel I should join in, but not just yet. Marydoll that's a seriously good haul. Ash* such a shame about the tree. Grammaretto snow? Oh dear. I better do food shopping tomorrow then.
Yesterday, once dgs1 was picked up by his dad, was a quiet day for me. I tidied up the mayhem that only small children can create. Later I visited mum who wasn't great. She wasn't up for chatting and not making sense a lot of the time. I let the nurse know who said they would check for a uti. Sadly, she's still refusing medication which won't be helping.
Today I'll get some washing done and tidy the kitchen. I have some knitting I want to do but a day for hibernation for me. Toad in the Hole with caramelised onions and cabbage for dinner. Have a good day all

Good morning everyone from a clear dry Northampton, chillier today.

Hearing appointment yesterday showed hearing loss commensurate with what can be expected due to age, no need for hearing aids yet. I was surprised to find there was no charge at my usual independent opticians. A further test recommended in a year's time.

Had time for a quick lunch of ham sandwich and coffee before meeting my friend at the cinema to see 'Ferrari ', which we very much enjoyed. Glad I had not researched the story behind the film beforehand, which made the impact more unexpected and shocking.

Back to dance classes early afternoon, then shall call into local shops on the way home as I have a voucher which must be spent locally, and it expires on Saturday. Shall probably get some wine and a nice food treat.

Must get my skates on for a Sainsbury's delivery.

Good morning from a windy and wet start to the day here on the east coast of Fife
I’ve had a day yesterday of planning my gardening skills with my carer once the frost has gon, probably the end of April.

I’m so looking forward to the next couple of weekends when lots of family are descending on me I’ve planned these weekends when I’ll be cooking a beef bourginough and a Chillie con carni.

Keep safe everyone colds and flues have started their rounds.

Have had to reset my password again - seems to happen every few weeks even though I post something most days. Is it just me or does it happen to others?

Not actually raining but more in forecast and cars from further down are parked in our bit of the Close which is higher. Will it ever stop, I start to wonder. Visit from chiropodist the only thing booked but some fridge sorting and laundry will ensure the day isn’t entirely wasted. Am impressed by the commitment of so many posters to starting the new year in good order and have resolved to follow their good example.

Good morning from East Yorkshire. Again it is a bright start by damp on the ground.

We enjoyed the panto yesterday. Oh yes we did! The man who played Buttons is excellent and really carries the show. He’s so popular it’s his 3rd panto in a row here.

I’m disappointed today as I should now be in a train to London to see Sunset boulevard but I’m not feeling well enough to go. It ends on Saturday so will miss my chance now.

Good morning everyone from a dry (at present) and bright south Manchester. Himself enjoyed watching the darts final last night and I enjoyed a mug of Horlicks. Once again we’ve slept really well. No plans for today.

A very quick hello/goodbye from me today as I'm off at the very crack of dawn tomorrow to the Lake District to help celebrate DD's 50th birthday. She knows she's going to the Lake District and that her daughters will be joining them, but not that the whole clan is joining them!
New Man has been doing a fantastic job of catering and organising. DGD3, who has baked one of her "speciality chocolate cakes", is driving me there and Dancing GD is driving me back on Sunday as she has classes on Monday and I have a gynae appointment in the afternoon. Anyway, I have to get myself over to the girls' first - hence the very early start. Next week I shall get back to normal and proper posting but in the meantime please all keep well and cosy and dry x

Good morning from Glasgow. It’s still raining! I’m not sure the many tulip/daffodil bulbs I potted will survive in pots of mud.

Some admin to do and a Waitrose shop later and that’s about it for the day. Later on I will continue watching Fool Me Once.

baubles I know it makes no difference now but I have had a search around and I can't find anything about medication and DEXA scans and I have had lots of DEXA scans. If you think about it one calcium dose is unlikely to make any difference to the scan result. I am so sorry you had this odd experience.

Good morning from the soggy Boggy Brae.

Good swim yesterday and I'm making progress with front crawl, which I'm pleased about. I was fascinated by another lady swimming in the same lane as me. I had to keep an eye on her as she was a slower swimmer than me (this is rare!), which involved my waiting for a bit at each end of the pool. Anyway, the fascinating thing was that she even managed to swim backwards without getting her hair wet!

baubles, I dug out a letter I received before a DEXA scan that I had a several years ago and it does say not to take a calcium supplement on the morning of a scan. The instruction didn't affect me as I don't (and didn't) take calcium supplements, so I had forgotten it. What a bore for you to have go again though!

News re BTDD is not good. The cancer has spread to more parts of her spinal column. She is currently in hospital being looked after while further treatment is decided.

A late good morning to all from an Eden where the sun has got his hat on.If only it had been yesterday as the Tumble dryer went all day.
I've been awake half the night trying to remember who gave me what for Christmas so that I can thank them. Christmas morning was such a rush with phone calls video calls and preparing lunch some parcels were opened and not appreciated.
DD who was travelling home must have got there safely as I have heard nothing from anyone. Why do we worry in the night?
A catch up day today with house work all decorations have been sorted and put away.
For once I have made a new years resolution don't take seriously and worry about phone calls from relations that amount to nothing, go with the flow like they do.
A hope you all enjoy your day and no-one is flooded out.
