I am shocked and dismayed that the lovely, kind, gentle, quiet and caring Paul O’Grady is being replaced with……..
Alison big gob shouty Hammond!

She will scare every nervous dog in range of her loud voice and exaggerated arm movements. She is a physically large woman who will overwhelm most dogs.

Why couldn’t the Tv company find someone more suitable, perhaps someone younger and gentler and not so well known. Give someone else a chance. AH is absolutely everywhere at the moment and she’s already ruined bake off for me. Not a fan at all (don’t know why you’d think that 🤣).

Who do you think would be good?

Martin Clunes, Henry Cavill,Hugh Jackman , Patrick Stewart, Jonah Hill, Ricki Gervais, not as fond of Ricki Gervais but he loves dogs.
I guess it depends who they can afford and where they live.

Tom Hardy would be amazing

No idea who she was. Had to Google her. Agree with most of the posts - no, no, no, no, Ghastly. Totally unsuitable.

Alison Hammond loves dogs and would dearly love one but her lifestyle is not suitable to be a dog owner. She's obviously a sensible person when it comes to owning a dog.

Julian Clary would be brilliant or Martin Clunes. Don't know why they have chosen A.H. as she doesn't even own a dog!

I like her! Surely she wouldn’t have taken the job if she didn’t adore dogs?

Callistemon21 Sat 03-Feb-24 22:03:23

Just watched Michael MacIntyre - I'd never heard her laugh before.
😲

She'll need to calm down or she'll frighten the animals!

Joseann Sat 03-Feb-24 22:27:44

I saw her on Michael MacIntyre too this evening. I think she realises that her laugh is her trademark somewhat.
It was very loud for 2 am!

The programme should end. Paul cannot be replaced and that gobby, obnoxious woman will scare the hell out of the dogs. I think Clare Balding or "The Dog Father" on Channel 5 who is on "Dogs Behaving Badly"

I dont mind AH in Bake Off but i was surprised she was chosen for this role. Ive never seen or heard anything that suggests she is a dog lover. Absolutely ADORED Paul O’Grady :-(

netflixfan Sun 04-Feb-24 10:57:27

Apparently Ricky Gervais was the running for the job. He loves animals.

Presenters make a heck of a difference to programmes, however much you might like the subject matter. I can't watch Susan Calman or Jayne Macdonald when they do their travel programmes although I'd like to see the places they visit (just not with them!)

She'll have to tone down because these animals may well be traumatised and sudden loud noises might cause them to react in fright.

I didn't realise Ricky Gervais had been approached to take over.

Yes, he would be a good successor to Paul O'Grady but apparently he says he's too busy.
A pity.

I wonder couldn't they make more of the staff who actually work there? I seem to remember a woman trainer who always had a bit of banter with Paul. They could have a voice over commentary but no presenter. Then they could pay the people who work there instead of a personality.
The staff working in The Dog House are brilliant.

Callistemon21 Sun 04-Feb-24 11:50:27

I think Paul let the dogs personalities be at the forefront.

A very hard act to follow! Not that it was an act, he was genuine and his empathy came through in every programme.

sodapop Sun 04-Feb-24 12:46:23

I think Ricky Gervaise ruled himself out of presenting the programme, not sure why.

Absolutely agree with your last post Callistemon21 that is part of the problem I suppose.

Glorianny Sun 04-Feb-24 13:35:15

I think the other thing about Paul was you sensed he wasn't just there to make the programme and he didn't go home as soon as the camera stopped shooting. He had real commitment and spent time there. I'm not sure Alison Hammond will.

specki4eyes Sun 04-Feb-24 13:51:53

Yet another interesting show that I will now have to avoid, thanks to this awful presenter. Why do they pick her? Do they actually WANT their ratings to drop? I already have to hit the mute button when her kitchen advert comes on. Hence I don't know who's kitchens they are ...so won't be persuaded to buy one!!

Yes, he adopted at least one of the dogs too and you always got the feeling he'd take them all home with him!

I shall reserve judgement.

Marmin Sun 04-Feb-24 14:04:51

This is a most unpleasant thread. So much prejudice. Shame.

Callistemon21 Sun 04-Feb-24 14:19:06

In what way prejudice?

How can disliking someone's raucous laugh be thought of in any way as prejuduce?

There are several presenters who have been discussed and we don't all agree who would be best (or worst).

I'll reserve judgement.

Anniebach

GrannyGravy why is it so wrong to dislike’not hate please ‘ any celebrity, I don’t like watching Lorraine Kelly because she giggles, that’s not hate

I didn’t mention hate Anniebach that’s not my way.

I totally understand people not liking the public persona of some presenters or actors, but calling Alison Hammond names
big gob, shouty, gob sh** (just a few that I can recall without rereading the entire thread) is reminiscent of playground bullying and like I said previously it makes me feel uncomfortable.

Not just you, I found some of the comments here so derogatory. Shameful. I find Alison Hammond a breath of fresh air. She is happy and jolly . I am sure she will be a great host !

Grannieinatwist Sun 04-Feb-24 16:56:07

OP you don’t sound like a nice person at all.

sodapop Sun 04-Feb-24 17:24:55

I'm equally sure A.Hammond will not be a great host for the show Syracute

I do agree with you about the name calling, it is unnecessary. That aside if you have a public persona you have to accept the brickbats as well as the plaudits.
