I will miss you Steve. Such a bit part of my life going back years. You seemed like a nice man and you always had a joke and a smile. I am in shock. Condolences to your family.

I also lost interest in BBC radio when he left.

Lovely man and so funny.

Very sad for his family

Wright prerecorded Sunday Love Songs on a Friday, featuring traditional dedications, requests for partners in both same-sex and heterosexual relationships and assorted letters or emails from listeners, invariably including the mantra “Loving the show, Steve”.

I was not a fan of the afternoon show but still such sad news, gone far too young. RIP to a radio legend.

Such very sad news. RIP, Steve. Condolences to his family and friends. 💐

I used to listen to Steve Wright in the Afternoon after driving home from doing a school run for the DGC and occasionally to his Sunday Love Songs.
The music he played was proper Radio 2 music, unlike some of the stuff that is played now.

RIP Steve Wright

Very sad news.

sodapop Tue 13-Feb-24 20:53:12

That is very sad as well as unexpected. Steve Wright was very popular, I didn't enjoy all his shows but Sunday Love Songs was very pleasant. A true professional he will be missed. Condolences to his family.
RIP Steve.

My plumber, a very well known man locally , is named Steve Wright.
He is known by everyone as Steve Wright in the afternoon.
RIP Steve, a lovely broadcaster.

Very much a shock. Not one of my favourites, though he helped get me through cooking the roast dinners when I worked at the hospice on Sundays! Totally appreciate his experience and warranted status within broadcasting.

Apart from listening to him on Radio 1 and 2 , saw him live in the 90` s whilst working on a cycle race at the NEC in Birmingham on a Sunday afternoon with Peter Powell .

That was a shock yesterday.
Steve wasn't my favourite DJ but did help me through some lengthy afternoon dental appointments!
RIP.

What a horrible post mae13 about a man who’s just died.
His wife or family could be reading this.

Georgesgran Wed 14-Feb-24 07:45:24

Some people just can’t help themselves Mae13.
An uncalled for post from an unknown!

NannyJan53 Wed 14-Feb-24 07:46:15

I agree a totally horrible post by mae13 , What a terrible thing to say on a post giving a tribute to a man who has recently died.

MissAdventure Wed 14-Feb-24 07:50:51

We always listened to Steve in the afternoon, when my girl got home, then we played Bamboozle on teletext.

Allsorts Wed 14-Feb-24 07:53:22

RIP Steve.
Very unpleasant post Mae13.

honeyrose Wed 14-Feb-24 08:43:29

Yes - totally uncalled for Mae13. Whether you liked him or not, he has just died. How heartless of you. I thought Steve was wonderful and always happy, cheerful and a great DJ who played such happy music. He’ll be much missed.

You're entitled to your opinion mae13 but Steve Wright was not an evil man. Heaven knows there are plenty of those around. He did no harm to anyone and was completely uncontroversial and he doesn't deserve a character assassination just after his sudden death.

Now is not the time to critique his style of presentation. That is a pathetic thing to do. There are plenty of celebrities that I think are overrated, not funny, not to my personal taste but I would not post a spiteful comment immediately after their deaths. I would keep my thoughts to myself, which is exactly what anyone with half a heart would do.

Shame on you mae.13. He was my favourite DJ. RIP Steve, you will be so missed.

AGAA4 Wed 14-Feb-24 08:54:34

I used to listen to Steve Wright in the car while waiting to pick up my GCs from school. He will be missed.
