Yesterday on our local BC news, both television and print, had the titles
"Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Whistler for Invictus Games Training".
I was curious why they used that headline, rather than using their official titles. Then I questioned their actual titles and how they should be addressed. I googled it, but admit I'm still a bit confused. He is a prince by birth, but not using the title now, so should be addressed as a Duke?
Should the headline have read 'The Duke and Duchess of Sussex..." instead? Even CBC which is funded by government much like your BBC used "Prince Harry and Meghan..." which I thought was odd.
I wonder about the media's reasons for using such casual titles, and even using Meghan's maiden name when they've been married for 8 years.

Oh, well I just checked out the DM article and can't find any gossip!
It seems to be factual report of the interview and the rest is about the Invictus Games and some lovely photos.
Unless this is a gossipy hint from Meghan herself:
When asked by an onlooker whether she planned to join her husband in trying out the daring sport, Meghan laughingly yelled back: 'I can't!'

I can only think that it adds to Charles distress when he has to read what is written about his son. Who wants their child's behaviour to be discussed on social media? Let them get on with it. It is their family's business.
I agree. The King appears to be a kindly soul who loves both of his sons dearly, and equally. I do sometimes wonder if the Gransnetters who write these relentlessly judgmental, critical, and negative comments about the King's younger son and his wife, ever stop to wonder how the King would feel should he read these posts? The King may well be unhappy about Harry's behaviour, but he did ring Harry to inform him of his recent medical diagnosis, and delayed his leaving of London so that Harry could visit him. This surely shows that the King and Harry still have a loving relationship, and personally I wish them both well.
TheatreLover you have never criticised an author, tv celebrity, politician , sportsperson, anyone giving a tv interview ,anyone who chooses to be in the public eye for fear they have some one who loves them ?
Dadima, in reply to your post Fri 16:50, I didn't actually read that he wasn't using his title, but assumed. As Canadian, the RF is not often in the news like they are over there.
I just thought it was odd the way the media referred to them and assumed they should do it properly, although I admit I don't know what the proper way is,
So Prince Harry is correct for him, how should she be properly named? Duchess Meghan or The Duchess of Sussex, etc.
so I looked up other Duchesses. Sophie Rys-Jones is the Duchess of Edinburgh. What would she be called in a newspaper headline?
I guess this post was more about what to call H & M rather than interest in the actual couple. And I guess assuming the media should do things properly, then wonder the reason they don't. Since we don't have royalty living here, they are not in the news other than perfunctory mentions.
I doubt if the King is on GN, so he won’t know what is being said about H&M.
Camilla might be, she probably has plenty to say about the Sussexes herself, under cover of anonymity.

Made me laugh thinking King Charles would ever read gransnet posts. I am certain he doesn’t even know it exists and wouldn’t care even if he did. Who cares if people write negative things about his son? I am sure the comments are richly deserved and I am equally sure Harry won’t care a damn, either.
A Duke or Duchess should be addressed as Your Grace
So Andrew like an Arch Bishop !

A Duke or Duchess should be addressed as Your Grace
That is for non royal dukes, i.e. The Duke Of Bedford.
Royal dukes, such as The Duke Of Edinburgh, should be addressed with their HRH title, apparently.
But is Harry still a HRH ?
I've got it!
It is Meghan who is writing all those posts from America about how to get on with her difficult mother-in-law.
And Harry's flying visit was to do urgent repairs to the panelling.
Never thought I could be jealous of a royal, I am now, The Queen at the Shakespeare event was greeted and kissed by
Jeremy Irons

Can't say this one is at all flattering, and what's with the weird rose pruning gardening gloves?
Not her best look. DH probably wouldn't have said anything, either.
They do look happy, though.
Curious, why does Megan have to touch everyone? Be it Harry
or someone standing next to her on a platform /stage

I think they are rather nice suede three quarter gloves. I wouldn't mind a pair but bet they cost a fortune.
What is weird is the way H&M's hands echo each other. A gift for a body language expert!!!
It's acting Annie.
She hasn't considered that not everyone wants to be touched all the time. She put Kate in the wrong by her (Kate) not wanting to be hugged when she first met her.

How do you know it's acting. I know someone who hugs everyone unless you stand back and ask her not to. She's just that sort of person, as M may be.
Tabloids still insist on referring to the Princess of Wales as 'Kate Middleton'. No wonder the Duchesses of Edinburgh and Sussex are, respectively, Sophie Rhys-Jones and Meghan Markle.

Perhaps he's describing something and she is unconsciously copying the description with her hands.
Someone pointed out to DB and me that we "talked with our hands".
Often it involved knocking something over unfortunately, in my case at least.
Quoted wrong post. 🤔
she's patting the underling, thinking she's a cut above!
