I didn’t think dogs were allowed in Waitrose 😳

I saw the store manager (in a suit so he must have been management) chat to him for a few minutes he walked off and RB stayed 😏. I shall certainly speak or perhaps write to Waitrose voicing my concerns.

I imagine RB is the type of person who would kick off if asked to leave, and make sure he got lots of publicity (probably without mentioning the dog). The store manager may have decided that was not the hill on which to die. I would tend to agree with that.

There are more ways than one of dealin with a problem like this and the managers should be trained to deal with it.

I am sure that there are also direct lines to Waitrose HQ on a problem like this. As he livrs locally this cannot have been his firsy visit to the store, it must be a problem they are used to.

Frankly, I cannot see that a barney between someone of Brand's negative notoriety, and a Waitrose manager can do other than redound to anything but an upswing in Waitrose's reputation.

Maybe RB was trying to train his dog too then- due to the wallaby incident? I dont see how the wallaby killing was an 'accident' though- the dog should be trained not to go after other animals- or humans- so that should not have happened.Clearly RB took his eye off the dog and it went wandering off alone in the woods- RB may have been drunk or high or some such?- or dog may have been hungry?-seeing as the cats were stopping him getting his food?And why on earth havent the authorities rounded up these wild wallabies by now and transported them somewhere safe??

Personally I prefer a well behaved dog to badly behaved children and parents who can't or won't deal with it. But we are all different and as a gsd lover I would have been more interested in the dog and probably not even look at the owner 🤔

So nobody knows the friend then? 🤔

I’ve seen dogs in a few shops when I lived in Germany years ago they let ppl take dogs in shops. I never took mine in because I knew one day we would be coming home and she would expect it to happen here too.

I go for a long walk with my friend and we have a pit stop at a cafe for lunch.
Often people have dogs in the cafe.
This week a pug was sat at a table with its owner whilst she fed it treats.

Dogs are allowed in many more places than they used to be. I guess it is up to the store management and perhaps encourages more people to actually visit the shops rather than go online. I have no objection to well behaved dogs in stores; the ones I see are usually smaller ones, rarely do I see the larger breeds. They rather cheer me up actually as most seem well behaved and are fully controlled by their owners. I even pet them sometimes-the dogs, not the owners!

Dogs should never be inside food areas for hygiene reasons (except for assistance dogs). Not all dogs are well behaved with responsible owners and lots of people don't like dogs for various reasons. Once when I wore brown trousers, a dog peed on my leg thinking no doubt, that I was a tree!

I volunteer at a local museum, which is mostly open air, with craft workshops opening off a central walkway. As one entrance is from the neighbouring park, people obviously come in with dogs. During the last two summer seasons, there has been a huge increase in dogs being allowed to poo everywhere and anywhere - including inside the shops - without their owners picking up the results...😠. The museum assistants have - understandably - become very fed up at having to clear up the mess, and so we mention it to anyone with a dog, who ALL express disgust and insist that they would never do that...🙄
One fine day last year, we were very busy, and had TWENTY-NINE instances...!!! Children were stepping in muck left right in the middle of the pedestrian walkway (& their parents were not best pleased!)
We already ask that dogs are kept on leads within the museum - so this is happening while owners are standing a couple of feet away, holding a lead 😱 It's disgusting, and has definitely changed me into a person who refuses to use cafés and restaurants that allow dogs (other than assistance dogs).

I have an unofficial support dog, she tells me if my sugars are too low (I'm diabetic), she warns me if I'm going to have a seizure, and she will fetch things for me, in addition to giving me the confidence to go out.

She was never officially trained so isn't entitled to a collar and lead from the relevant charities, but if I pay £50+, I can have her name listed as a 'support dog' i would receive a lead etc.

Many shops and eateries will allow non official support dogs, but these dogs are not 'working' dogs, they're not trained to work formally. They are unreliable in enclosed spaces (not their fault), and may misbehave if they come into contact with other dogs.

I hate to see dogs in shops a d especially in cafes. My friend won't eat out anywhere where dogs aren't welcome. I won't eat out anywhere where they ARE ! We therefore only ever meet up in her house or mine, usually hers as I don't particularly want doggy smell in my house either. Not a dog lover here.
