Transgender women and an early state pension.

Transgender women born between 31 October 1953 and 6 November 1953 may be eligible for State Pension from 31 October 2018 to the date of their 65th birthday.

I’m not sure how I feel about this.

Rosie51 Tue 05-Mar-24 22:22:59

To date around 5000 GRCs have been issued in the UK, so that's about 0.007 % of the population have one. What's the probability any of them are transwomen born in that one week? What's the point of even having a policy to cover that?

Rosie51 Tue 05-Mar-24 22:25:00

Biological sex and its immutability comes under fact not opinion.

Cold Tue 05-Mar-24 22:27:52

Does it mean they are able to claim back payments?

Because surely anyone born in 1953 would already be in their 70s and already claiming a pension.

Mollygo Tue 05-Mar-24 22:28:11

VioletSky

Mollygo you don't get to tell anyone what they think or mean. That's not how it works

And you do not have any power to place your opinion, and it is just an opinion, above anyone elses

🤣🤣🤣🤣
But VS, you just did.
You said what I wrote was word salad.
I’m saying that saying you can change sex is a lie.
That’s my opinion and unlike you, I make no attempt to put it above anyone else’s.
It was good to hear you earlier, supporting females over the unfair treatment they receive from TRA and the TW who lie and cheat their way into things to the harm or detriment of females.

Presumably.

However, it's full of pitfalls.
Someone deciding they are transgender since that date surely is not eligible? How can anyone prove anything?

^Transgender women born between 31 October 1953 and 6 November 1953 may be eligible for State Pension from 31 October 2018 to the date of their 65th birthday.^

I really don’t understand this. Their 65th birthday will surely be from 31 October 2018 to 6 November 2018? Am I being completely dim, or does this mean that the very few transgender women born during this period will get some (extra?) state pension for just up to a week? Why? confused

A woman born on 1 November 1953 would have reached retirement age on 6 July 2018, so it’s not actually giving them the same SPA as other women.

It just makes no sense, does it? Or is it me….?

I’m quoting my earlier post in case there is a brief pause in the bunfight and anyone might feel inclined to address the OP.

Can anyone - please! - explain what it actually means?

SeaWoozle Wed 06-Mar-24 00:36:48

If people didn't post provocative threads in the first place there wouldn't be any bunfighting! 🤷

Rosie51 Wed 06-Mar-24 01:08:59

SeaWoozle do you take the same attitude to threads that open discussion from opposing viewpoints on other topics, or is it just biological sex and gender identity that shouldn't be discussed? Not wanting to be provocative, but sometimes it seems this is a "sacred caste" of threads that dare not mention its name. This was how Priestly abuse of children was endured for so long, it was a 'sacred caste' that couldn't be discussed let alone questioned.

No, it's not just you and you're not being dim.

What is a bunfight, please, and how does it differ from a heated discussion?

Maybe I’ve got the wrong end of the stick, but the rather sexist term tends to be used on here when people refuse to allow word twisting and gaslighting to pass unchallenged. Are we supposed to just accept those things and not respond? Are men ever accused of ‘bunfighting’?

Anyway - re the dates - Is there a link to the source of the information in the OP? There may have been a misprint in the dates, in which case the below may help with any confusion (from assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a7a4f25ed915d1fb3cd6f3b/2-note-on-women-cohort-1951-53.pdf ). My guess is that transwomen are attempting to claim any compensation awarded to women in this position, although AFAIK nothing is guaranteed at this stage. :

Note on the cohort of women born between 6 April 1951 and 5 April 1953
SUMMARY:
• The Government has announced that the single-tier pension will be introduced
in April 2016. This means that men born on and after 6 April 1951 may qualify
for a single-tier pension, as may women born on and after 6 April 1953.
• Due to unequal State Pension ages, a man born between 6 April 1951 and 5
April 1953 may receive a single-tier pension (based on an April 2016
implementation date), whereas a woman will not.
• Because of this inequality in State Pension age, the women in this cohort can draw a State Pension between 2 and 4 years sooner than a man born the
same day as them. This means that they could receive between £13,000 and
£26,000 in State Pension in the interval between their legislated State Pension
age and the male equivalent of 65.
• The median valuation for this cohort is £125 per week, when assessed under
the rules of the current system. When assessed using single-tier rules, the
median valuation is £6 higher - £131 per week, and not the full £144 of single
tier.
• Approximately 90% of the women in this cohort would receive more in lifetime state pension and other benefits under the current system than they would if they had a State Pension age of 65 and received a single-tier pension.
• The women in this cohort will retain access to aspects of the current system
which are being abolished as part of the single tier reforms, with a view to
ensuring that today’s workers have sufficient clarity and certainty to plan for
their retirement. These legacy features include Savings Credit and derived
entitlement to State Pension.
• By choosing to defer their State Pension until they reach 65, and opting to receive increments, approximately 85% of the women in this cohort could
receive an initial entitlement of £144 or more.

Trans women are not women.

Why should these people, deliberate choice of phrase, think they are entitled to receive different treatment from real women?

Allsorts Wed 06-Mar-24 07:33:42

Violet, just how are men transitioning to women naturally,. Without chemical or surgical intervention. Can't be done however much you try to turn anyone into someone else biologically they remain what they were.its a pity such a lot decide they are another sex before they marry and bring children into the world the natural way, , they are the victims.
You have your opinion which I titalkyvagainsagainst reject and I have mine which you can totally reject.

Bridie22 Wed 06-Mar-24 07:42:25

As biological females we must continue to speak the truth and not be coerced into lying
About the facts which are...you cannot change your sex .

Maggiemaybe Wed 06-Mar-24 08:27:57

What is a bunfight, please, and how does it differ from a heated discussion?

It doesn’t. And of course it’s used with reference to men - google the term and you’ll find it routinely used to describe parliamentary debates etc.

Anyway - re the dates - Is there a link to the source of the information in the OP?

As already stated back in the thread, it’s from the Government website. Here you go.

www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-backdated-state-pension-if-youre-a-transgender-woman

There may have been a misprint in the dates

Possibly, but seems unlikely.

My guess is that transwomen are attempting to claim any compensation awarded to women in this position

I can’t see any basis for that.

sf101 Wed 06-Mar-24 08:34:01

Only a MAN can be a trans woman.
Doodledog says it all beautifully in previous posts as do others.
I will not take part in male fetishes or abandon truth about biology.

Cossy Wed 06-Mar-24 09:08:00

Trans women are legally women in regards to pension if they have a GRC

That's the law, and actually there is no point in taking that away from trans women because it won't benefit women to do so

Indeed it is the law.

I’m struggling to understand what I perceive as “discrimination” on this thread.

Just like any other group of people there will be a small percentage among transgender people who are not nice, decent, law abiding people.

Why doesn’t matter how people choose to live their lives so long as they don’t break the law?

Cossy Wed 06-Mar-24 09:12:53

About the facts which are...you cannot change your sex .

Why must we?? It doesn’t affect us in the slightest? If the law recognises trans gender people (people, not just women, people can transition either way!), the law allows them to apply for GRC and thus have their birth certificate changed and be legally recognised as a different gender. If the law recognises this, why can’t you?

Bridie22 Wed 06-Mar-24 09:13:08

I disagree Cossy,
Transwomen are men and as such not entitled to a biological females pension, its just another way they are inserting their lies into biology.

Smileless2012 Wed 06-Mar-24 09:26:08

"Only a MAN can be a trans woman" exactly sf010.

The definition of transition does not say that transitioning results in changing one's biological sex, it is "The process by which a trans gender person permanently adopts the outward or physical characteristics that match their gender identity as opposed to those associated with the sex registered for them at birth".

Cossy Wed 06-Mar-24 09:27:18

Bridie22

I disagree Cossy,

It’s absolute fine to disagree, but that doesn’t change the fact that trans women are legally recognised as women if they have a GRC.

As for the pension thing, imo this is just a nonsense! It doesn’t make any sense and it’s almost as if the DWP are attempting to solve a problem which doesn’t exist!

I have said time and time again that I support the freedom of speech. I also support the right to reply. But then people grizzle about bunfighting when it was inevitable due to the nature of the post.

Just answer the question being asked!

FWIW, there are MANY transwomen out there who RECOGNISE that they will never be full women, if you will. I have several trans friends, who all appreciate their differences. They don't seek affirmation from anyone and don't expect special treatment. And they're certainly not trying to deny anyone's womanhood/manhood. Equally, they don't expect to be harassed every time they leave their houses, but they are. They just want to live as their true selves without interference from others.

And it's really not a new thing, by the way.
