Clearly the Republicans want him and clearly the blob is scared of him.

I predict he'll win bigly.

😁

Biden made his biggest gaffe in Jan 2022 when he said the world would tolerate a small incursion into Ukraine by Russia. He was corrected quickly. More recently he backed Israel unconditionally and is now calling for a ceasefire. Extremists exploit weakness and Biden is weak. Say whatever you like about Trump but he is not weak.

Juniewoonie Wed 06-Mar-24 12:35:41

The trouble is Biden, is so frail and stumbling over his words and getting confused that I don’t think he’s really a viable alternative to Trump.

Trump is wrong about NATO Urmstongran

I don’t think this is ā€˜a silly thread’ HPQ.
😊
We will have to agree to disagree - although debate and alternative opinions are always good on GN in my opinion. Actually I’m sure we all agree on this point!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 06-Mar-24 12:30:13

Whatever we think this side of the pond it is becoming evident that POTUS Trump has support in the US. On super Tuesday he won all but one of the primaries, Nikki Hayley winning the other.

nanna8 Wed 06-Mar-24 12:24:13

I have to admit, unpleasant though he is in many ways, if I was American I would vote for Trump over Biden. I think he would be better for the USA ( though not for the rest of the western world!) He is also a lot less likely to start world war 3, he is a pragmatist. Alliances would change under him. I am sure he would be very bad for Australia and to a lesser extent, the UK.

Urmstongran Wed 06-Mar-24 12:10:14

I think that Urms is just being provocative for the sake of stirring things up, and my comment was meant to be amusing

Actually HPQ your earlier comment really did make me chuckle it was very witty I thought!

But no, I’m genuinely not posting about Trump to be provocative. I think he has a lot of support (even on here?) from the silent voters. Hence the shocks when counting ballot papers.

Urmstongran Wed 06-Mar-24 12:07:33

Hmm. Well like the world over the pandemic can’t have helped (whoever was in charge). That’s why I said the UK was facing similar problems. We are all facing economies that are flatlining. We desperately need good strong leadership.

Now I don’t dislike or not trust Starmer. But his team (on the whole - Lammy, that shirt button Jonathan Ashworth two prime examples) don’t inspire confidence and Starmer is going to be circling the plug hole regarding Gaza (and Galloway).

Trump just inspires me. He is straight talking. He calls it for what it is (NATO for example). Now that, I admire. His strength of conviction. It’s reassuring instead of wishy-washy political platitudes (from Sunak & Starmer both). Words without actions.

China and Russia can’t assume they know how he will deal with world events. I don’t believe he’d throw Ukraine under the bus but instead of ā€˜winners and losers’ he’d force negotiations. His attitude is ā€˜how do we stop the killing’.

He is a pragmatist. He brokered the Abraham Accord in the Middle East confounding his critics. It pulled Iran into line.

Plus, no wars were started under Trump. A good thing surely? A strong leader carries great sway.

Good morning Urmstongran, check your account, I think it has been hacked by someone who is making you look a fool.

That's exactly my point.

Insult and mock

Maybe your account has been hacked to make you look a pompous fool?

well, that's an unecessarily rude comment, but there we are. I think that Urms is just being provocative for the sake of stirring things up, and my comment was meant to be amusing, but obviously went right over your head.

Like GSM, I am bemused (amused?) by the assumption of left leaning teachers........anyway, I have better things to do, so if you admire a man who apart from being a liar, sexual abuser, fraud, cheat, also finds it amusing to mock a disabled reporter....well, I have nothing to contribute to this rather silly thread.

Labradora Wed 06-Mar-24 11:56:22

I think, along with many others , I imagine, that Donald Trump
is a very, very dangerous man.

Errrr..... Guy tried to overturn the results of an election and errrr..... may well dump Nato. These are the things that worry me.

Siope Wed 06-Mar-24 11:41:45

He says what the American people (who haven’t benefited from the trickle down effect) who feel overlooked want to hear.

Do you not know that Trump’s economic policies are pure trickle-down, and, as you rightly say, failed miserably to benefit the majority of Americans, or even the wider economy? What he promised, and what he delivered, are demonstrably poles apart, and helped damage the living standards of millions of ordinary Americans during his last tenure.

ā€˜Bidenonimics’, which is centre-out, is actually proving far more effective.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 06-Mar-24 11:25:55

If you disagree with a posters point of view it does not give anyone carte blanche to insult, deride and disrespect that poster.

Despite my dislike of Trump, I do think all the countries of NATO should pay their dues. It’s disgraceful that they don’t. How dare they, and then expect the protection of NATO?

Yes, agree. Even those I cannot and will not support do occasionally speak sense! (I mean Trump, not anyone in heregrin)

I don’t like Trump, nor do I think he’s fit for office.
However, I do respectfully disagree with Urmstongran. She’s a long time member of Gransnet and I don’t like to see disrespectful posts to her. Additionally I think she’s a well liked member on here and newer members should accept that. They don’t have to accept her views, or anyone else’s.

Apart from when he is spouting parrot-fashion his from his mental play-list of favourite rabble-rousing and opponent-bashing phrases, Trump seems unable to string together a coherent string of words.

Nor does he seem capable of reasoned thinking before speaking, instead just blurting out the first insult that comes to his lips when faced with something he doesn't like.
As for the truth, I am not sure that he even understands what that word means, but if he does, he clearly doesn't think it is something that applies to him.

On the face of it, that makes him sound a lot like Boris Johnson, but much as I despised him as PM, I think he was just a bumbling, self-serving buffoon, whereas I honestly think that Trump is unhinged and extremely dangerous in a position of such power.

Honestly, I am finding it increasingly hard to understand how anyone with an ounce of intelligence can think otherwise where Trump is concerned.

Most of his previous 'entourage' have nothing good to say about him and a few have/are/waiting for , prison sentences.

What seems to be forgotten is many people aren't hugely interested in politics. It doesn't make them thick. If someone wants to vote for Trump, why the ridicule?

All these pious comments from pompous individuals gets peoples backs up.

And by doing so, will push some to vote for Trump.

Louella12

People don't have to be interested in politics and being "thick" (your words, not mine) doesn't negate one from voting for a good person. But apathy towards politics and voting DOES weaken your argument when someone states they're voting for someone because they like their hair, forgetting the awful things they've done and they "can't be bothered" to find someone who might just be better.

Casdon

Many years ago, I saw Gary Glitter in concert (I was a support worker at the time and unexpectedly found myself accompanying someone to his gig!).. It was at the old Wembley and it was amazing! He had a Harley on the stage and everything. A real showman. Just like Trump. And obviously now known as an awful human being. Just like Trump.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 06-Mar-24 10:27:13

Well said, Casdon. I assume Louella is not ā€˜hugely interested in politics *.

sarahcyn Wed 06-Mar-24 10:25:42

@Urmstongran I respectfully disagree.
Trump is not a patriot, except for the small demented little orange country called Trump. He is an isolationist. He is vain and power-obsessed, and hideously vulnerable to the blandishments of Putin. He is looking to ditch Nato - he calls this "putting American first".
His craven "do what Donald says" Republicans are throwing Ukraine under a bus - and why? "because it's a long way away". FFS.

If there are public demonstrations when he's elected, Trump is the kind of man who would seriously consider imposing some kind of martial law in the USA - a dictatorship. Putin-style.

But don't forget that only a minority of Americans are registered to vote in the primaries - there is still hope.

Not being interested in politics doesn’t make you thick Louella, but it makes your point of view much less valid.

Votes count from anybody who casts them, but opinions don’t. It’s exactly the same as me saying I love Gary Glitter because I like his music, and ignoring his reprehensible crimes (obviously I don’t).

It’s not pompous to say Trump is unfit for office, it’s fact, it’s all out there in the public domain for anybody who can be bothered to find out for themselves. It is arrogant though to argue from a position of little interest or knowledge.

Cossy Wed 06-Mar-24 10:21:03

When Trump was running the last time, reporters went onto the streets to ask his supporters what he'd have to do for them NOT to support him. It started off minor but when it got to "If he had k1ll3d children, would you still vote for him" and they replied "Yes".
I was dumbfounded.

Trump is a narcissistic, awful excuse for a human being. His supporters are deluded and very often (but not always) not the brightest crayons in the box. He thrives on dividing people and stirring up tension and hate. It has been PROVEN in a court of law that he is a se#ual predator and has paid goodness knows how many millions of pounds in hush money to numerous people. Because he can. He's a terrible excuse for a human and I sincerely hope the American people don't make the same mistakes again.

šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘ Exactly this!

But there again, many people ARE extremely interested in politics and not just that of their homeland.

I too, whilst I may be a left leaning centralist, am not an ex teacher and I read lots of different news sources.

However, we’re fortunate enough to live in a democracy, where we can express our views and allegiances safely.

Do you think Trump welcomes views which are not strictly aligned with his?

Good luck America!
