Is anyone else struggling with shopping for 50+ bodyshapes? What do you all recommend?

I love Kettlewell, White Stuff, a bit of M&S and Sainsbury's. And the shop in the village.

I’m 72 and at the moment I have on a Fat Face crew neck T shirt and a pair of Next Denim jeans, for dresses it’s usually Next or Joe Brown, but I’m usually in jeans and T shirt or jumper if it’s cold.
I’m between a 12 and a 14 which is a nuisance, even though some items are from the same store they don’t all fit.
I’m not sure there is an over 50s look except that I don’t wear mini shirts and I’ve never been a lover of low cut tops.
I hate a wrinkly décolletage on other women and don’t wish to impose mine on others!

My Mum at age 72 wore skirts with a blouse or twinset with stockings and sensible shoes, usually covered by an apron, when the housework was finished the apron came off.
In Summer she wore the same but with short sleeved top and sensible sandals. That was in the days when the over 50s needed their own stores.

Wow! I've not logged on for the working week and am surprised at all the comments. They are inspiring comments and respect being shown to each others views. I'm a convert to gransnet!

I've found my style at last! I'm 72 years old so it's taken quite some time! I made all of this in the first picture: skirt, top and jacket but not the leggings, which came from Sainsbury's. There are patterns for leggings out there, of course. I get compliments all the time. I also make my own jeans, wide leg pants and tops with three quarter or long sleeves. That means I can wear V necks which I find more flattering than round necks and I can cover my ugly elbows. Dresses don't suit my fairly active lifestyle. They make me feel too "dressed up".

I've also been using colour change fabric for some of my tops. They are a lot of fun. They change colour when you go outside in the sunshine. (See the fabric with white then pink roses.) I make colour change tee shirts for my grandchildren too. Sadly, the colour change effect wears off after several washes but the tee shirts themselves are still wearable.

I bet there are lots of sad, lonely sewing machines at the back of cupboards! There are sewing groups and classes all over the place.

I love your style, it’s mine too, but you look sooooo much better.
I’m a born again dressmaker too, I’ve done a class on pattern drafting so I should get on with that and make allowances for my “+50s body shape”.
I hope I know where you buy your fabric because I recognise some of it and I hope you payed what I’ve seen it at.
I got some “chicken” poplin from pound fabrics and did see the same one in JL for more than twice as much.

Teenager of the 70's here. I was always a vintage/bohemian/hippy type girl with a touch of Cindy Lauper in the 80's (including the feathered hat!) which was my effort at office wear. Yes, it was a talking point.

I'm a petite size 8 or 10 depending on the label, with a small waist and curves. I realised that after the age of 50 the vintage/bohemian style was actually ageing, for me anyway. It looked more bag lady than individualistic.

So in the winter I mostly live in black skinny jeans and biker boots with V neck jumpers. I still wear some of my vintage coats/jackets though.

In the summer I love wearing dresses and sandals and I try to find unusual prints and styles. They're usually the sort of thing you'd wear to a festival which I can still get away with. I hate being "bundled up" so I relish the warmer months.
