Help! I’m turning into my mother (😂😂)

Anyone else turning, or already turned, into their mothers?

I some times look into the mirror and see her looking back (very scary) but it’s when I use her many used expressions or tones that I know I’m turning into her!

She was a very plain speaking, to the point lady and one of her favoured expressions was “I cannot be doing with…..” I use this a lot now. Her second favourite was “you just have to get on with it” and “lots of people are much worse of than us”

She was very kind hearted, and generous and loving but “she didn’t suffer fools gladly”

I miss her flowers

I have started catching glimpses of my father when I glance in a mirror. Not a pretty sight.

I pray I do not turn into my Mother. I also out of respect wont say what I think of her in my head.

I share your pain. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

My mum who died last year always said “I’ll never be dead while you are alive”. We were very alike and very close. Great sense of humour, sometimes we laughed until we cried usually over silly little things. I miss her every day.

The acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree.

I sometimes look in the mirror and see my grandmother. Reminds me I must smile. She was a miserable old woman!!

I could do worse to be honest. My Mum was a woman with ideals that have served me well in life and have passed down the generations to my grandchildren. She was passionate about kindness and fairness and taught us to only ever treat people as we would wish to be treated ourselves regardless of any differences. My daughter only the other day talked about how she says things that my Mum used to say. I miss her.

One day my daughter was playing up and answering me back and my Mum laughed because I said exactly the same as she had to me years before. Many years later I was laughing my head off at her daughter doing the same and my daughter saying exactly the same to her. We both ended up laughing which made my granddaughter even more angry as she thought we were laughing at her.

Strange thing, my best friend is adopted, is is the spit of her adopted mum, right down to looks, & mannerism's, more so than than the biological daughter- think we pick up mannerisms of our mothers.. me I look in the mirror & see my mums sister who is like a mother to me 😊

Join the club. I am the spitting image of my mum when she was young and our granddaughter is the spitting image of me when I was young and I say all the things you have mentioned.

Cabbie21 You may be witnessing your daughter now to be very opposite you in looks, mannerisms, speech, dress, work… but she may be very much like I was when growing up - working very hard to NOT be anything similar to my mother (who was a good and considerate person.)

I fought that all my young adult and maturing life. Till I looked in the mirror one morning and knew immediately that I had manifested into my mother (imagine that!) - in looks, hair, smile, determination, independence, empathy, thoughtfulness, animal lover, work ethic, same tastes and style, all of it.

Not that I wasn’t all those things growing up - but in my head I was not her. Consider it an homage to you when someday you may see yourself in her.

Your mum sounds to have been a lovely lady and positive role model. I miss my mum too. We are both lucky to have been raised by such kind and decent souls. Xxx

If any young male courting the beautiful love of his life, is wanting to marry her - all he has to do is look at his future mother-in-law to see where it will end up. I find it ironic and comical.

It may even be a case where the beautiful daughter may be doing a great service in breaking a cycle of cruelty and abuse. That is bravery and true morphosis.

I see my grandmother 🤦🏻

Lostmyglassesxx Thu 21-Mar-24 18:14:03

Me too !
All her expressions - which sound so odd to anyone younger ! And my body is also starting to resemble hers .. she lived to 99 though ..

Minnyknit Thu 21-Mar-24 18:23:08

Not me so much but my husband is looking so much like his mum, same shape and face even the way he eats his food. I have to say though she didn’t have as much stubble as he has. I didn’t always like her very much.

Mojack26 Thu 21-Mar-24 18:28:59

Yip....❤I miss her...

hollysteers Thu 21-Mar-24 19:01:45

Oh yes, I certainly am and thought I was so different to her as a teenager.
Her sayings and superstitions pour out of my mouth, photos show the likeness and her love of roaming about independently prove the point.

Boolya Thu 21-Mar-24 19:07:16

My mum died when I was 16, but I can still recall some of her phrases with I use from time to time.

Boolya Thu 21-Mar-24 19:08:12

'which' not 'with' !!

MissAdventure Thu 21-Mar-24 19:10:03

I love the old phrases, and use them when I can.
Our language is so quirky, it would be a shame to lose the humour out of every word. smile

I see my Dad when I look in the mirror when I haven't got my make up on, and even when I have, I have the same chin shape. I seem now to have developed old lady hands - scrawny and with age spots, which resemble Mum's hands in later years, so I have a somewhat unflattering legacy from both! However I do have Dad's warped sense of humour so don't mind that.

Grandmabatty Thu 21-Mar-24 19:30:57

I am nothing like my mum, not in looks nor personality nor politics and I'm very glad. I'm more like my dad.

DevonshireSalop Thu 21-Mar-24 20:08:03

I’ve heard my mother’s words coming out of my mouth for years, almost as many as people have been telling me I look like her !!
