Help! I’m turning into my mother (😂😂)

Anyone else turning, or already turned, into their mothers?

I some times look into the mirror and see her looking back (very scary) but it’s when I use her many used expressions or tones that I know I’m turning into her!

She was a very plain speaking, to the point lady and one of her favoured expressions was “I cannot be doing with…..” I use this a lot now. Her second favourite was “you just have to get on with it” and “lots of people are much worse of than us”

She was very kind hearted, and generous and loving but “she didn’t suffer fools gladly”

I miss her flowers

Not me, but after my DS had left home to move in with his GF, I happened to see them in the supermarket, they didn’t know I was there, but I heard him say to his GF ‘No we are not buying branded beans own brand is just as good’ This is after he’d spent his teenage years moaning about me buying own brand groceries 🙄

My hands have become like my Mum’s.
I’d be very pleased if I became like her. I loved and admired her and miss her very much.

I certainly don’t want to be like my mother. She was and still is age 90 a narcissist. Made my miserable for far too long.

My eldest son has just informed me that I will never be gone as long as his daughter is here alive as she is not only the image of me in looks but she talks like me users the same phrases as me and what’s more argues blind like me. As she is a midwife and now a clinical psychologist with a fantastic job and I adore the very bones of her I’m quite pleased.

I am turning into my mother.I now realise how lonely she must have been as she became older.Like her I do not want to be a nuisance to my busy children and grandchildren so am moving to a Retirement Village with a community and lifestyle for old ladies like me.

I’d love to be like my mother. She was far more beautiful than me.

Apparently , my older - by - 10 years sister , tells me I’m turning into my dad , NOT my mum🤷🏻‍♀️

Fingers crossed that I don’t turn into my Mum.
I’ve asked my family to let me know if I start to.
I’ve no wish to be like her

This has been an interesting thread to read. It’s the kind of question I often ponder.

Happily I don’t see my mother when I look into a mirror but I hear her dialect speech in recordings of my voice. My daughters say I am nothing like her for which I am grateful.
I do see but not hear my mother when I’m with my sister.

My beautiful adopted daughter doesn’t look like me but her likes and interest are the same as mine and I hear myself when she talks to the children and so does she🙂

I look like my mum, and am becoming more and more like her. My daughter says it’s like being with her nan sometimes as I also sound like her, now she says she’s turning into me 😳.

The pictorial jokes are on us, as both my daughter and I take after my mum, and we’re happy to. I realise many people would not like to think this way.

I am not like my mother in looks or personality and would not wish to be, but it doesn't follow that I did not love her for everything she was.

I have to thank her for her understated belief in the importance of education and feminism, and her casual assumption that her three daughters could be anything they wanted to be, and that marriage and children need not restrict a woman from being what she wanted to be.

None of those are things that are visibly obvious in any way. But they are there.

whenever I had boyfriends, in my mid to late teens, who would be at our house, even just come to call for me, my Mum would tell them, “well John, they say if you want to know how the daughter turns out, look at the mother” girly giggle. I wouln’t see them for dust.

It's the biggest compliment to say we look like our mother's. What could be better?

What about our fathers?

I look like my father.

However, I realise I often sound like my mother; she was the Queen of Proverbs, a saying for every occasion. 🙂

No it's not - not always. For those of us who didn't have a good relationship with our mothers, the last thing we want - or need - is to be reminded of that every time we look in the mirror.
