How do you acknowledge Easter.

I shan't go to church, but I will acknowledge the event by having a special dinner on Sunday and watching Songs of Praise.

I still don’t really understand don’t eat animal meat (which isn’t human flesh) but we eat eggs which kills a baby chick !
( I m a vegi anyway but just interested)

Our local Baptist church sent a personal invitation via a beautiful card and creme eggs to every house in this new housing estate inviting us to an egg huny, bacon rolls and a joyful service on Easter Sunday so we shall go to that.

Thank you crazyH I knew about the no meat on Fridays, I just wondered about the male/female division.

I prefer to recognise the beginning of spring rather than any religious connotations, as a non-believer now.

We will have hot cross buns and an Easter egg and nothing else but a delicious roast lamb dinner on Sunday.

Do not acknowledge Easter other than giving GDs an egg.
Hate hot cross buns and dislike Simnel cake.
Television will be rubbish all weekend.

I don’t like hot cross buns or Simnel cake or chocolate but I buy eggs for GC I don’t want them to feel left out. I have no interest in religion being forced to go to church as a youngster probably created my rebellion.

I’m not a church goer but, as with Christmas, I like to connect to Easter with music. Bach’s Easter Oratorio, his St Matthew Passion, Stanford’s Stabat Mater……. and of course favourite Easter hymns from school days. A feast for the soul.

Just another weekend for us. That said we always enjoy fish & chips from the chippy down in the square. On GF’s the queue is out of the door they are so good, constantly frying. As I only have to bring them up in the lift they are always still very hot and with salt and vinegar, totally delicious.

We do buy Easter eggs (and a book each) for our two grandchildren.

This made me laugh as I love a Lindt bunny straight from the fridge!

Not religious and I hate bank holidays. If I could afford it I would go away on holiday.

Grand kids are away and I always give them money instead of chocolate. Might design a sweater this afternoon and sort through the stash for knitting it.

Only eggs which have been fertilised will turn into chicks.

Dd has had rescue chickens for years now, and none of the hundreds of eggs they’ve laid have contained anything more than a yolk and a white.
Has anyone actually ever cracked an egg and found an embryo chick inside?

Roast lamb dinner at my daughters on Sunday. Chocs and cards for my sister,daughter and a friend, no buns bought but will have fish tonight. Easter eggs for children in family.

I acknowledge Easter by recalling of how the Doctrine of Atonement resembles the discarded doctrine of human sacrifice. The Doctrine of Atonement is one of the reasons I could not attend church. It is quite horrific.

I don't understand it at all Caleo.

Bluebelle - nanna8 - I also think it’s a symbolic gesture of a‘sacrifice’ - by giving up meat, you are giving up something that you like or enjoy. I know someone who gave up chocolates for the whole 40 days of Lent. Now, that is a sacrifice 😂

Just broke my diet by eating a hot cross bun with butter.

I deliver or send Easter eggs to family or friends .
The religious ones get a religious card and the others receive something secular

I never eat meat on Fridays - despite being Protestant my family never has .
I was too wheezy to attend Maundy Thursday celebrations .

Sunday - I'll be at the service .

Leaving in quarter of an hour for the 3.pm. service in church. Shall go to Mass on Sunday, am going out on Monday and a friend who could not come before is coming on Tuesday to eat roast leg of lamb etc.

And I shall make hard-boiledl eggs in mustard sauce tomorrow, Easter Saturday - an old tradition that most people have forgotten, but a truly delicious dish.

I wasn’t thinking of actually incubating shop bought eggs MisInterpreted 🤣 but you are all talking about it being a gesture to not eat meat on Fridays and Good Friday so I was wondering why we then eat eggs which are the symbol of a new life starting

Went to church last night. It fell to me to decorate the side altar for a quiet vigil after the service. I am a bung it in a vase sort of person and was a bit nervous that my display would all fall apart. It didn’t and here is a photo. It’s in my sitting room now as the altar has to be stripped down for the rest of the weekend.
I will go out and watch the cross being carried into the church on its way to Walsingham. We are on the stations of the cross route.
We are having fish tonight too!

Have just returned from a Good Friday service.

A lot of hymns (8 or 9, didn’t know some, but My Song Of Love Unknown is a favourite of mine), plus the vicar reading Bible passages in between.

Felt quite meaningful, actually enjoyed it much more than some other GF services, pleased I went.

We usually have the stations of the Cross on Good Friday at 3pm. I haven’t been. Son has invited me and his parents-in-law for tea .

We're having fish tonight too.

DH said he thought he'd have a pasty for lunch, I told him he couldn't - it's meat and it's Good Friday.

I've no idea why though? Is it something to do with an old decree of the Catholic church? Or something to do with a fish being the secret sign for Christians?
