DGD, a year 5 teacher, told me this morning that when telling the Easter story during assembly, they referred to Mary Magdalene as Jesus’s best friend.

At which point a boy at the back called out,

Why can you eat a poor old fishes flesh and not chicken ? I could understand a bit more if you couldn’t eat any living creature but why’s a cows life worth more than a salmons

And I shall make hard-boiledl eggs in mustard sauce tomorrow, Easter Saturday - an old tradition that most people have forgotten, but a truly delicious dish

My stepfather mentioned ‘old way’ dishes yesterday when he was a lad. .. the famous Scottish mutton pie, now replaced by the ubiquitous beef pie.

No, I think some rules were made up by the Catholic church over centuries.
Other religions have their own rules regarding food.

I buy my DAC and DGC an Easter egg each. Also Good Friday we have hot cross buns and I don't eat meat on that day. My family do though.
DD usually does a mini eggs hunt around the garden and house for DGC.

Always get the grandkids(young & older) choccy egg.And take nice easter bouquets to family graves.Send a small handful of Easter cards. And visit whomever we can, not neccessarily on actual easter sunday.Used to get turkey but favour lamb more now. Fish is usually good friday but supermarket didnt bring half side of salmon (🙁)

Yes MisAdventure i believe they did(in past times) as fish was Good friday (catholics) because Jesus fed fishes & loaves to people on the friday when he was reputed to have died and so its a religous day.Easter Sunday is a big thing for catholics because its the day he was reputed to have arose from the dead.

So we 'feast& celebrate' it.

We are not religious so don’t mark it apart from a little money for the grandchildren and an Easter egg hunt for them.

Jesus fed the loaves and fishes to the multitude after John the Baptist had been killed, which was three years before Jesus was crucified.
