ABBA - 50th Anniversary

This year is the 50th anniversary of ABBA winning Eurovision. I remember being quite snooty about the group, thinking that they were just pop stars. At that time I was into a wide range of music but not pop.

Some years later I changed my mind. I'm not quite sure why. Now however, I think that their songs are clever, if not to say brilliant.

Have any of you had a change of heart about the music of your younger years?

No, I still love the music I loved back then - from mid 70s to early 80s. Sometimes the start of a song can have me in tears. Also trying desperately to see all my favourites again whilst they’re still here.

I think Abba was a bit later on the scene in North America. I remember my older sister being a big fan, but for me I think they were radio starts with catchy tunes, but I never bought any albums or singles.

But I did love disco, and I think the BeeGees reigned supreme for me at the time. I think I had a pretty eclectic rock/disco/pop favourites, with some folk/pop as well, such as Carly Simon, Simon and Garfunkel.

Rock was very popular at my school though, so I was introduced to rock albums from friends, like ACDC, LedZeplin, Boston, etc. I still enjoy a good blast of rock from the stereo once in a while!

Oh, and I meant to say I love ABBA now. I think I found an appreciation for them a bit later. I would love to be able to get to the ABBA Voyage show. I would bring my daughter with me, and she would love it as well.

I've just watched it. As good as i remember. Don't they look young! Rik Mayall was good in so many things - he died too young.
