When I was very small (just starting school at 4) I didn't realise that not everyone knew what a titfer was! I also told my teacher that I had been "Tom and Dick" at home, and had to explain to her what it meant (she lived in Barnet and had no idea!)
I still slip into my parents' language occasionally even now and say "frock" to my DGD - she just looks totally confused

We all said titfer ( tit for tat, hat) and various other Cockney slang like let’s have a butchers ( butchers hook, look).
Dad called his underwear ‘unmentionables’.
