Just that. Nat king Cole came on my play list just now singing that song and I've always known which day I would choose. The day I met my future husband. What day would you choose?

So many days happy days in the past it's hard to choose. One day springs to mind that happened last year was we'd just flown to a Greek island had picked up the hire car and we were driving through the mountains to the wonderful villa we'd stayed at the year before. I remember saying to my DH over and over again 'I'm so happy'. On days like these 🎶🎶🎶🎶

Too many wonderful days from which to choose.

September 2007 ... can't remember the exact date ... was the day I met the man I'd marry in 2011! Almost 18 years later we're still like a pair of lovesick teenagers! He's now 62 and I'm 58.

Of course I would like to relive the day I got married. And also many happy days with my husband and my Mum and Dad.
But sitting here thinking I remember one glorious August day on a beach in France my husband and 8 year old son playing cricket and me reading Anne of Green Gables to my 6 year old daughter it was blissful. Later that day in a beautiful bistro my son and daughter gave us a basket of dried flowers they had saved up for, it was our 13th wedding anniversary. I have a picture the waiter took and it always makes me smile. We didn’t seem to have a care in the world.

A magical day in Françe with MrJ, just the weather, the ambiance, the fun, the laughter, 2015.

Life is full of 'what ifs', and I am always cautious of 'what if' days, because, if you had done something different or whatever, you do not know how that different action/outcome would have reshaped and changed your life in the longer term.

Someone who died quickly in an accident, might live on to die after a long and painful illness. Before I married DH I had two relationships that could have ended in marriage. Each had its 'what if' moment. Both men are now dead, but I know how their lives turned out, one was diagnosed with a degenerative disease in his early 40s and had to give up his profession and retire before he was 50 as bit by bit the illness took its toll. The other chose a career that took him and his family around the world to different countries before he finally settled in Australia. having had a peripatetic childhood in a similar family. In adult life I wanted a more settled existence.

Being brutally honest, marriage to my very DH, and the life it has given me has given me so many more opportunities and so much more one I could shape for myself.

So I stick to wanting to relive days when I was ecstatically happy and have chosen one where what has followed, is what I hoped for.

The day after D2 was born. I was in the Westminster hospital with a lovely group of mums.
It was a lovely sunny Spring morning, things had stopped hurting (my third C section) and DH was bringing D1 in to visit us.
One of those golden days when you felt nothing could go wrong in the world.

Many people here with feelings of 'guilt' What happened was not your fault!and I wish you all peace of mind.
I would love to have one more day with my Mum, see her face , hear her voice and wrap our arms around each other. I was so lucky she was my Mum and I am grateful for that and for all she taught me.

I would go back to the day that a GP, on the first ever house call to our home, told my mum she had a virus.
Had I been there I would have insisted she was sent to hospital and probably wouldn’t have died that night alone in bed.

The day a doctor told me my eldest daughter would recover from a stroke a week after her 50th birthday.

A positive day for us - when our second child was born, quietly at home. So much healing after a traumatic previous birth in hospital....
And our 3 year old loved him immediately. ❤️
I felt so blessed.

To be able to sit with my grandmother and sew or embroider with her, or just chat. We didnt always agree and she was not a "touchy feely" person - you gave her a peck on the cheek when you arrived and left. She was not one for big hugs. But she always listened and was in many ways a very wise woman.

I too wish I could have changed one day and life might have been very different

keepingquiet Mon 15-Apr-24 17:00:23

This day- it may be my last and I wouldn't want to spoil it.

There are lots, but for the purposes of the thread: January 1st 2023, the last day I could still walk up a mountain. And I’d choose a different place to do it.

I have had many wonderful days ........ but the day my daughter, and her now husband, turned up and announced that she was pregnant was the most amazing moment in my life She was 45 and he was to be our first grandchild ...... and we had waited a long time to be grandparents. As MrR, excitedly, sat and chatted to them I just couldn't stop crying! Just thinking about it now is making me emotional.
He is 4 years old now. My son and his wife then gave us our darling granddaughter and in June they are expecting again. Another grandson to be loved We are truly blessed smile

The day I passed the final exam that meant I was definitely going away to university.

The joy of knowing that hence forth for good or ill my life was in my hands and that I was going somewhere where no one would know anymore about my childhood than I cared to tell them and their opinion of me would not be based on problems I had as a child.

So much anguish on here. It’s truly heartbreaking.
We never know the day do we?
💐 for all who have suffered loss. x

Couldn’t choose between two days

Tell my youngest brother not to swim in the sea where he drowned

Talk my middle brother out of taking his life

Anniebach Mon 15-Apr-24 16:13:55

Cossy Mon 15-Apr-24 16:08:33

I really don’t know! I’ve made many poor choices in my life, equally have had amazing days! I think I’d love to have a glass of bubbly with my dearest parents.

GrannySomerset Mon 15-Apr-24 16:06:20

As Allsorts so accurately puts it - to have an ordinary day with DH when he was still well, though he would have been busy planning the next holiday no doubt. We don’t appreciate the ordinary until it is too late and life can never be the same again.

TwiceAsNice Mon 15-Apr-24 16:05:15

The have the day back with my son and for the day to mean that he didn’t die

Urmstongran Mon 15-Apr-24 16:04:44

Allsorts

To have one day with my late husband, to go a walk, call at the local pub for a drink, just an ordinary day, I still miss him as much, everyone thinks after a couple of years you’re over it.

Oh Allsorts I believe you’d never get over it. 💐
Just learn to navigate it as best as, I suppose?
