Due to arthritis mine are now to tight so am thinking of having them made bigger. Mr J has offered to buy new rings for me but I don't want to change them as they are really pretty. Some Women do I believe change their rings over the years to update them but it is not something I want to do. How about you keep originals or new what would be your preference?

I stopped wearing my rings after I broke my left wrist 13 years ago. They were both removed in casualty, fortunately, they were not cut off, so I keep them in my jewelry box. I was very much thinner when I got married over 50 years ago so they were already becoming too tight. I now wear no rings at all and it does not bother me or my partner (same one that I married). I am not saying that this would suit everyone but I offer it as a possible solution.

We had our rings made bigger and the pattern recreated for our 50th wedding anniversary and they were then blessed during the morning church service. We then went off for a lunch with family and friends.

How lovely B9ex!

Yes, for nearly sixty years. Lost my engagement ring, that came from DHs Granny, in a house move some time ago. I am always looking for a similar one.

I still wear my original wedding ring and eternity ring, but my first solitaire was Victorian, I had it rebuilt after about 15 years, but the setting was so delicate that later we decided to buy a modern version. It sits in our safe to be handed on to one of the granddaughters.

Sadly, no. I only used to wear my wedding ring as the engagement ring was too delicate for everyday wear. However, after 56 years of marriage, my wedding ring had become so thin I was scared of it snapping so it I keep it safely tucked away.

My fingers were much thinner when I was younger so my rings got a bit tight. Plus the engagement ring band was wearing thin from rubbing and couldn't be altered. I wear my old ones on a chain round my neck and have news ones for my fingers.

I still wear my wedding ring in fact I've never taken it off in 53 years. My engagement ring was stolen, we bought a replacement with the insurance money, I only wear when we go out.

My wedding ring -yes. My engagement ring: a row of 3 sapphires separated by 2 small diamonds wore out completely just over a year ago. I lost the centre sapphire and all the mountings and the shank were so thin that the jeweller said that the ring would need to be completely remade with extra (18 carat) gold and a new stone - and the cost for this was astronomical. So I decided to hold off while I thought about it.

Meanwhile DH went off and bought me a smaller version of the ring set in 9 carat gold as a temporary replacement.

Then I went to an antique fair and there was a jeweller with a wonderful array of gemstone rings and I fell hook line and sinker for a ring with three large beautiful blue opals (I LOVE opals) separated by rows of three small sapphires. A larger more ostentatious version of my original engagement ring.

I have always worn my engagement ring and now wear either my replacement ring or my opal ring each day with my wedding ring.

Had a 24 carat gold one. Flogged it after divorce, as was hard up. ☺

I have my original wedding and eternity rings, my engagement ring was lost and replaced about 14 years ago.

I sometimes wear them, more often I am ring less.

Witzend Wed 17-Apr-24 14:31:05

I haven’t worn my wedding ring for a while - it needs to be made a bit bigger but I haven’t got around to it. I’d never want to replace it, though.

I never had an engagement ring. At the time, dh thought ‘getting engaged’ was desperately uncool, so we just set a date.

However he more than made up for it by buying me a lovely diamond and emerald ring right after the birth of dd2, which TBH meant a lot more to me. Esp. when a non-Brit neighbour (from a different culture) said, ‘You got that for a GIRL?

I do wear that virtually all the time.

I've had 2 wedding rings due to 2 marriages.

I only wore them for 5 minutes each.

Took them off after the ceremony and never wore them again.

I don't like rings

Grandmadinosaur Wed 17-Apr-24 14:35:05

No I don’t as my fingers were thinner then. I do however wear my eternity ring which does fit. We have a big anniversary coming up this year and I think I might hint about a new wedding ring as there isn’t anything in the appropriate stone I desire.

pably15 Wed 17-Apr-24 14:37:16

yes I still wear my wedding, engagement and eternity rings,56 years married. the gold band on my engagement ring was replaced years ago

Thorntrees Wed 17-Apr-24 14:38:46

Still wear my engagement and wedding ring and my eternity ring, they all fit ok.
My engagement ring has been repaired twice as the rings rub against each other and cause damage but wouldn’t want any other so worth the money to have it fixed.
I wear my Mums engagement ring and eternity ring on my other hand plus an opal ring DH bought me many years ago.
I love them all and only take them off to put hand cream on.

I wear my eternity ring and engagement rings all the time. There isn't room on my finger for all three.

MiniMoon Wed 17-Apr-24 14:47:44

I still wear my wedding ring. My engagement ring and eternity ring are on a ring tree in my bedroom. I wear them if I'm going out and need to dress up, then they go back on the tree until next time.
When we were constantly using hand sanitiser during the covid pandemic I took my wedding ring off as my fingers became very dry and itchy. Its the only time I didn't wear it and it felt very weird without it.

BigBertha1 Wed 17-Apr-24 15:07:24

We were never engaged but I still wear my original wedding ring made a bit bigger in recent years and my eternity ring was given to me by DH about 20 years ago so that's still OK to wear. I take it off for golf.

Pittcity Wed 17-Apr-24 15:13:51

No.
I wear DHs wedding ring. We had matching pairs. He never wore his as he has eczema. Mine grew too tight so I swapped.
My original engagement ring was stolen when I couldn't wear it in pregnancy. The replacement is also too tight now so I now wear an eternity ring instead.

Mollygo Wed 17-Apr-24 15:18:20

I wear my wedding ring, with a ring guard to keep it on my finger as it seems to have shrunk. My engagement ring was getting too fragile, so it lives in my jewellery box.

SusieB50 Wed 17-Apr-24 15:26:05

Engagement ring was stolen, sad because it was worth very little, a Victorian band with very small sapphires and tiny diamonds. I never replaced it until our ruby wedding with another simple Victorian band . My original wedding ring was a wide band and became too tight and wouldn’t go over my arthritic fingers . I wear my mother’s wedding ring now even though I’m widowed.

LinAnn52 Wed 17-Apr-24 15:31:04

I wear my wedding and solitaire diamond engagement rings all the time. On my right hand I wear a beautiful trilogy diamond ring with platinum band which my DH treated me to, a couple of years ago. Initially it was worn on special occasions but I then decided I couldn’t enjoy it when it was hidden away in a box, so out it came and it hasn’t left my finger since.

Georgesgran Wed 17-Apr-24 15:32:25

There was a long thread on this recently - I have no sentimentality over my rings.
I’m on my 4th wedding ring - 1st too wide, then yellow gold, white gold, now a white gold diamond band.
I’m on my 3rd engagement ring - having had no2 stolen.
