It oven is my bugbear

Best money I ever spent was on Getting A Man In to clean the oven. Ages ago now though - it’s really ancient so I keep thinking it’ll pack up soon and I’ll need a new one anyway….

I bought one of those fridges that doesn't need defrosting, for some reason it's lodged in my mind that that means doesn't need cleaning except for accidental spills.

Have to say though, DH actually cleaned mine a couple of days ago. Couldn’t believe he’d put the shelves etc. in the dishwasher. I started flapping explaining it’s a no no, but to my surprise, everything came out fine. 😃

Took the easier option and moved house in October 2023 to a brand new clean fridge.

HousePlantQueen : Now you come to mention it, I've been trying to ignore those mysterious packets of 'green pond-like mush'. Perhaps they should be donated to the nearest university in case they have medical potential.

Very well done 👏! Did you find any of those mysterious bits of polythene filled with green pond like mush? Or is it only me?

If anyone wants to hone their cleaning skills then my oven door badly needs attention. I keep meaning to look at the instructions, it needs to be taken apart to do it..…don’t all rush at once..!

I didn't actually clean it last weekend, but I did clear out a lot of unused (not to mention unusable) veg with which I made surprisingly satisfactory 'fridge-bottom' soup, to which I added some dried herbs and judiciously chosen spices. My very wonderful DGD recently cleaned it for me.

I wait until I am having a miserable day and then justify feeling martyred by cleaning out the fridge or the oven or the inside of the windows. Never all in the same month, mind you.

Oh kittylester, well done. You have made me feel guilty: not guilty enough to clean my fridge, sadly.

I’ve ordered bicarbonate of soda in tomorrow’s shopping delivery, so it’s half done.

I found a mouldy lemon in mine this week and put it in the compost caddy. Does that count?

Ps I line the veg and salad drawers with kitchen roll or J cloth.

I use an old tea towel - and don’t change it often enough.

Did clean one of the freezers in the garage last week. Does that count? It hadn't been done for 6 months 😳. I keep meaning to buy one that doesn't need defrosting.

I think bicarbonate cleans without leaving any smell and also destroys any smell that might be in there, which of course there is not.

I didn't know bicarb was involved - does that mean I need to do it again?

I used Method antibacterial!

And, will it last until the fridge dies or will being clean cause it to die? I'll be really cross if it does.

👏👏👏👏👏 I too have very well developed slut skills, life is too short! I’ve left everything so long it’s overwhelming!

And when you finally do these jobs, then you can’t stop admiring how pristine it all looks, and vow to keep on top of it….

Today I took 2 big bags of books and other stuff that had been sitting there waiting for weeks on end, to charity shops. 🙂

What did you use to clean it with Kittylester or anybody who has recently done it?

I generally use bicarb and white vinegar

Just bicarbonate diluted in hottish water to wipe the inside. Poke down the drain hole!
I take out the shelves and drawers and wash those in washing up liquid and hot water.

The oven needs attention.

👏👏🥇🏆. Well now I don't feel so bad! I alway think everyone is a domestic goddess with perfectly clean homes. I clean the fridge every fortnight (and it's a big un). Maybe I won't worry so much now!
