I do get irritated by .........

I get irritated by litter also and by graffiti and any despoilment (is that a word?) of the natural environment.
I was lucky enough to have lovely kind parents and a smashing childhood but my childhood home had no garden , just what we called "a back yard" that is a concrete patch 12 by 12 at the back of the house and a small privet hedge at the front.
My significant adult life was lived in London and Hertfordshire and people's failure to appreciate and preserve their wonderful green spaces with fabulous treese.g. graffiti on benches: setting fire to park benches: littering: made me foam at the mouth and want to shout " you don't know how lucky you are..... "

Some wide pavements are designated for use for pedestrians and cyclists but with no dividing line.
I am tired of oncoming traffic driving on my side of the road , forcing me into the kerb because of an obstruction (parked car, slow vehicle, cyclist) on their side. Yesterday six cars in succession overtook a parked car while I was forced to pull in or risk being scraped.
It is my right of way.

As a cyclist I understand the irritation to path users. Most paths here are shared use for cyclists and pedestrians. So here's the dilemma - do I ring my bell and startle people as Doodledog suggests or do I use it as a warning as requested by JamesandJon ?
In practise I don't use my bell as I have seen it make people jump. I often cycle very slowly at a distance behind walkers until there is a space to pass with a wide berth - it only takes a couple of minutes at most out of my day.

Now - cars parked across cycle paths really do irritate me.

Please, please use your bell, that’s what it’s for after all.
Use it a short distance from pedestrians in front of you, not just before you speed past them, then it warns rather than startles.

I wrote first of all there is a second !
The person , who invited me to the garden centre continued the get a mobility scooter theme .
I had the distinct impression that they had been talking about me .
I made the same replies .

I've never said , why don't you sort your own life out ?

Doodledog I think it's illegal to ride bikes on pavements.
You can push them on the pavement (with you walking) though I believe.

I'm sure I was taught that they "become a vehicle" when ridden.

There is something which I find mind numbingly irritating .
Yesterday , I had a nice day out planned .
Church first and talking to my Vicar was the nicest part .
Then onto the garden centre , which should have been thoroughly enjoyable .
First of all , I had a lecture from an acquaintance .
Why don't I get a mobility scooter , was the theme .
I don't want one .
She persisted .
I don't want one , because I'm on a exercise programme to restore my core and reduce my weight .
She continued .
Being told want I want /need to do has become a regular lecture each time I see her .

Good manners means that I say nothing .

I was driving home one evening last week. It was almost dark, yet there were three teenagers, all dressed from head to toe in black, riding bikes down the middle of the road - no lights, nothing. An accident waiting to happen. A few years back, I was crossing one of the main roads in Edinburgh, at a pedestrian crossing with the green man on, when a cyclist flew through and nearly took me away. Let's just say I turned the air blue that morning.

I don’t think bikes should be on pavements or footpaths at all. It’s really annoying when someone rings their bell and expects you to jump out of their way, regardless of your mobility or how much space there is. If people are using a footpath on foot (the clue is in the name ) cyclists should dismount and push. Where I used to work was dreadful for that - students on cycles and people on those city scooter things. The number of traffic calming measures and lack of seating (some of it replaced with bike parks and scooter chargers) meant that the less mobile have enough problems getting around the city centre as it is. I’m all for green measures, but suspect that town planners are all young and fit.

Why has everything become so lax? There are road safety rules but many people ignore them. People on mobility scooters are a menace. They seem to think they take priority over everyone else, forcing pedestrians to step off the pavement into the road.
All cyclists should be forced to take a cycling proficiency test, all bikes should have a bell and lights.
These are the laws but are not enforced.

I hate seeing cyclists on pavements, I've seen electric bikes on pavements going faster than vehicles! I've seen delivery drivers cycling inside shopping centres.

I get irritated by litter.
Our back gate goes out into a public right of way. Using it we are 5 minutes from the river and duck pond. There is also an Asda nearby and people throw wrappers and cans down despite there being plenty of waste bins. On a Sunday my youngest dgs age 7 and I take a bag each and go out to do our bit. Granny let's go save the planet.

I find cyclists and even walking or jogging pedestrians feel they don't need to be cautious or aware on the road. Like drivers are the look out at all times. Unfortunately, that's what we have to do in this world. I rather be the extra cautious driver looking at every traveler from every direction, than being involved in a collision.

Dog owners who allow their dogs to run off the lead.
A local 3 mile leisure walkway between villages here is impossible to walk along without dogs running at people.

Also the people who bemoan the lack of shops and blame the council for chatging high rates etc but do their shopping on line.

We have a coastal path near us used walkers and cyclists also. Do they never have a bell? We have often been startled as a bike swishes past with no warning.

Cyclists here always indicate with their hands, when they intend to turn

I get annoyed when they jump red lights at crossings. They all do it. Their rationale is that they can plainly see if people are still crossing. Well, by that token so can I as a car driver. Apparently their "green credentials" give them immunity from the law and somehow makes them superior to pedestrians. That's the attitude in Bristol anyway and it makes my blood boil.

They think we are all mind readers. You probably thought he was glancing back to see if the toddler was OK.x
