Sick of celebrities

I know some will say 'read a better class of newspaper' but the papers this morning may as well be renamed the Taylor Swift Diaries. I don't enjoy politics and like to read light hearted news but I'm sick of reading about the Beckhams flaunting their wealth, the Kardashians latest child, who's nepo baby is succeeding at what, etc 😠

Chestnut Sat 20-Apr-24 09:22:27

I think you're referring to the Daily Mail who does tend to have endless articles about 'celebs' and especially American ones, including rappers. Just a quick glance shows articles on Katie Price's boobs, Paris Hilton's baby, Beyonce in a catsuit and Britney doing one of her silly little dances. Obviously Kanye and Bianca haven't got up yet today. It's all such trash and is so annoying, but amongst all this garbage they do have a few good articles if you search them out.

But you have really answered your own question, which is to read another paper!

Elless You will have to pardon my ignorance, but, what is a nepo baby please? smile

Just googled ….

welshgirl2017 Sat 20-Apr-24 10:02:32

Even the BBC news online and the Guardian have a load of this celebrity cr*p - I just don't read it.

Witzend Sat 20-Apr-24 10:08:25

It was some years ago, but I still remember a newspaper piece by some female journalist that included the line, ‘Let’s face it, we’re all obsessed with celebrities.’

Speak for yourself, dear!

If you are talking about the DM I agree.
They also seem to have taken a liking to making more headlines to be about murders.

I have started to dislike it all so much, I have taken to taking out a subsciption to another online newspaper. As a birthday present. Did it when there was an offer on.
Goes against the grain a bit, as dont like newspapers behind paywalls. But also, even the DM now has articles I would have read, as a DM Plus or something.

Jewelle Sat 20-Apr-24 10:30:48

It’s not just the DM, the Times covers lots of celebrity rubbish too. I love the comments that a lot of the articles have underneath!

Callistemon21 Sat 20-Apr-24 10:34:07

Even the news on TV (especially ITV) always contains an item about some celeb or other, yes it was the ubiquitous Taylor Swift last week, and I find myself shouting "This is not news, I don't care!".

Then the announcer says "And, before Emmerdale, we go over to our reporter in ..... " or whatever. Why?
Emmerdale? Time to reach for the off button.

Rant over 😃

I'd never heard of him so I just googled.

Has he lost his hairbrush? He needs some serious time at the barber's, something could be nesting in there.

Athrawes Sat 20-Apr-24 10:36:57

I'm tired of so called celebrities too. What exactly do they do that interest us? Even The Times mentions them!!!!

Anniebach Sat 20-Apr-24 10:38:41

We used to get the DM 20 or more years ago, until t hey started double page spreads of so called c’lebs and their pets and how they looked like each other. What was that about.? This was followed by criticism of female c’lebs who had perhaps put weight on, or had cosmetic surgery….. or had broken up with someone no one had heard of, so less news and a lot more useless gossip.
So we changed to another newspaper.

That'd wake him up in the mornings 😁
Noisy creatures!

Spuddy Sat 20-Apr-24 10:50:57

I know exactly what you're saying! On the corner pop-ups on my laptop 7 days a week it says things like ''such&such is PREGNANT'' ''So&so SPLIT'' ''Such&so break silence on THAT kiss'' etc. etc. Not forgetting Amanda Holden and Liz Hurley and others who have no idea what clothes wearing is!

Then there's that plastic looking mannequin Taylor Swift banging out songs slagging off her ex's.

The Beckham's only have to blink and it's all over everywhere for weeks! I have nothing at all against David and Victoria, they're actually lovely people, but I don't want to know the ins and outs of their lives!

Hairy and Migraine ... I mean Harry and Meghan and their never-ending brain-numbingly boring tantrums.

I want to read about REAL celebrities who do good, such as actor tough man Michael Madsen who does charities for kids with terminal illnesses, Keanu Reeves and Alec Baldwin who campaigns for animal rights, Miriam Margolyes and so on.

Buy a decent newspaper and if it carries a story about a celebrity turn the page.

Kate1949 Sat 20-Apr-24 12:04:53

We never buy newspapers except for a Saturday one. It is The Daily Mail as it's got the best TV guide. DH went to get it this morning and he said he had to go through them as people had stolen the guides and left the paper.
One of my bugbears with celebs is the amount of them who have written books. I don't mean autobiographies, but story books, novels, children's books. A female celeb has a baby and she writes a book about parenthood. It gets published. I often wonder about struggling writers who can't get their books published seeing all these books. Yes, I know it's all about making money for the publishers but still.

Millie22 Sat 20-Apr-24 12:07:27

Spuddy
I agree and ...everyone is writing a book these days or putting their name to one.

Then they are everywhere plugging the book they may or may not have written.

Millie22 Sat 20-Apr-24 12:10:32

Kate
Sorry crossed posts.

We think the same!

Kate1949 Sat 20-Apr-24 12:13:39

Yes Millie and they all have their celeb mates on their shows promoting each others books.

BlueBelle Sat 20-Apr-24 13:00:43

And while we re having a knock
Celebrities who launch their sons and daughters into the limelight just because they have their name
Bradley Walsh comes to mind with his completely bland son who has as much charisma as a worm now turns up co presenting Gladiators plus an acting part in casualty when he really has little acting ability ( or at least if he has it s so far hidden) all on his Dads shirt tails When they may well be a young kid whose a great personality or actor but never gets a chance
