In a continued effort to start threads -

Does anyone have any connections to people taking part in the London Marathon today?

A friend of a couple of our daughters is taking part. His name is Sam Perkins.

Sam was diagnosed with MND at 37 having been a successful amateur triathlete. He is a lovely man - funny, charming and kind and a huge Nottingham Forest Fan.

Sam is now wheelchair bound, reliant on a ventilator and being pushed round the route by a team of volunteers.

He has set up a fundraising charity called Stand Against MND, or SAM, and he and his lovely wife have raised a lot of money for research.

Do you know anyone running today?

Not the London Marathon but my schoolgirl friend ran in the Rome Olympics.

Not today, but one of my brothers in law did two years ago, he did it and we all followed him online with a tracker.

My son is running in today’s marathon.

My Niece is doing it today for a Kids Charity. She is 32.

My DS did it twice quite a few years ago.

So sad to hear about Sam Kitty

One of my sons in law did it last year for Cancer research in memory of his mum. He aims to do it next year too.

Yes, I do. A lovely friend’s Daughter who’s running in memory of her Dad. She’s a very sporty Norland Nanny but no marathon runner, so has trained like mad to do this today! She’s raised a lot of £’s for the British Heart Foundation and we’re hoping that she’ll cross the Finish line and despite the family tragedy, find she’s been able to do something really positive. 🏃🏻‍♀️‍➡️

My daughter is running it.

I wish all the runners good luck and an uneventful run, so many admirable back stories, they’re all winners for getting there.

Cossy Sun 21-Apr-24 08:59:37

No, but I absolutely admire the runners and wish them all the very best of luck!

My great nephew has an aggressive form of MS and is running today - against all odds! He is also live streaming his run which is extra pressure as the equipment is heavy.

Go, Joe! We’re all very proud of you!

Good Luck to everyone who is running. The sun is shining for you.

☀️☀️🤞🤞👏👏👏👏

Our son and daughter in law don't run in the London Marathon but they run in other charity races for cancer patients as they have suffered with cancer themselves and so have our daughter in laws parents, my late husbands parents my sister and brother in law. I am so proud of everyone that takes part in these races to raise money for the charities of their choice.

My Granddaughter is running today raising funds for Macmillan.
She had a masectomy in 2022 at the age of 40 and has trained so very hard.
I spoke to her yesterday as it is her Birthday tomorrow, she told me she has decided running is just not her thing.
Good luck to all taking part.

Good luck to all the runners. My daughter has run 7 marathons in the past. She said the best was around Loch Ness as there was so much to look at during the race.

Hope everyone does well.

We're sponsoring a young man from our local pub who is running for a world poverty group.

A friend is running her 25th London Marathon today, supporting Children with Cancer. Another friend’s niece is running, raising funds for MS, which her sister has been diagnosed with. My daughter is cheering on her friends, with the CoppaFeel charity team, which supports breast cancer, which she had in 2019. She has run the London Marathon, a triathlon at Blenheim Palace and a Trek last year for CoppaFeel. I’m very proud of her. Good luck to every taking part.

Not this year but my daughter did it last year, her third London. She has done several others but is recovering from an injury this time.

My niece has recently been diagnosed with MS. Her husband is running his first marathon to support the charity.

Good luck to everyone running. And it's not raining! A bit chilly for the supporters. So sad to hear of young people with illnesses. Best wishes to all.

The post at 11:03:00 looks dodgy to me so I've reported it.

We know someone who is running today for MND research. I've never done a marathon, but have been to London several times to support family members who were running. It's a great atmosphere!

Good luck to all runners. It's a great achievement even to get to the start, let alone the finish!
