What were the first ever records that you bought and when?

We had an end of term party at school when I was in P7. We could take our own records, so I went to the record shop and bought Mary Wells, My Guy. My first record!

I remember choosing 2 'Top Six' EP's for my birthday. I couldn't remember exactly what was on them, so just looked them up. It was my 11th birthday. One had

I'm not sure, but I think they cost 6 &8, the same as a single.

Finders Keepers - Cliff Richard and The Shadows in 1966. I still have it, still play it too. It is now on it's 3rd record player!

Interesting how a few on here turned to classical music and didn't appear to have any interest in pop or rock thereafter. I see no reason why people cannot embrace a wide variety of music. Snobbery perhaps?

I used to be quite snobbish about classical music. When I was at grammar school a friend introduced me to Rachmaninov - she considered Tchaikovsky to be rather naff and I followed suit. When I first moved to London I became friends with two girls who are at the London School of Music. One evening we went to the Proms bearing scores of La Mer which we followed, standing right at the front.

Needless to say I got over such silliness a long time ago. I like classical, jazz, rock and pop music. Not all of it - there are many things that I don't like, one of them being the trained, operatic voice.

The mention of Anyone Who Had a Heart by Cilla reminded me that was my first - I think, costing 6 shillings and 8 pence. My friends didn’t like it and thought I was stupid to buy it. I think the next ones might have been House of the Rising Sun by The Animals which I adored and ‘Tobacco Road’ which I think was by a British Group though an American song.

I bought singer twinkle song Terry when I was about 13-14 that was in the early 80s 20yrs later I was riding my own motorbike lol

First single was without You by Harry Neilsson and album was Propaganda by Sparks.

1950s "Green Door" byFrankie Vaughan; "Side Saddle" by Russ Conway, a pianist. Winifred Atwell, a Trinidadian pianist, was also popular in the 1950s.

Very first record was “ Anyone who had a heart, “ by Cilla Black. I loved pretending to be Cilla, singing into my bedroom mirror with my hairbrush microphone!

I remember buying ex-juke box singles with the centre missing. There were little plastic attachments to make them playable on a record player. Two of the first records I bought were See Emily Play by Pink Floyd and Paranoid by Black Sabbath. Also T Rex, Tamla Motown, Rolling Stones, Wizzard, Slade, Steeleye Span. I think the first LP I bought was Ziggy Stardust. I also collected all the James Bond soundtrack LPs.
Sorry, can’t stand the Beatles - very over-rated. 🙄

1968. Aged 13, I bought my first ever single, "Move in a little closer, baby" by Harmony Grass. (Later the song was a hit for Mama Cass.) I played it over and over again till my Father said he would cut the plug off my record player if I didn't stop!
