Brioche buns for burgers

I hate brioche buns when used for burgers! Brioche is sweet. Burgers are savoury. Most restaurants don’t give you a choice and I rarely eat burgers at home and now can’t have one out either. I’ve even considered taking my own white roll with me. Who thought up this abomination of cuisine??

It’s all a matter of taste, isn’t it - one man’s meat is another man’s poison. I have to admit I’m rather partial to a brioche bun with a burger on the rare occasion when I eat one,
but if you find that disgusting, that’s just your opinion.

I don't mind a brioche bun with a hamburger but it has to be a good hamburger and Nigella puts ice-cream in hers, (No burger). And cheese and ham in a croissant Is a great brunch time snack with coffee in a càfe. Although I have yet to try the fruit cake with cheese.

What is a brioche bun actually made of ingredients wise please? I have no idea.

I’ll only eat a burger if it’s in a brioche bun, a bread bun is just too heavy for me 🤣

Smoked salmon open sandwich on a brioche bun - lovely!

Ooh, lovely. I sometimes make 'posh' burgers and they go in lightly toasted brioche burger buns.

Sweet and savoury can go well together. Has anybody ever tried a blue cheese (roquefort, say) spread on a dark chocolate digestive biscuit? Heaven.

Love it!

I prefer my burger with no bun at all, and that's how I prepare them at home. I use top quality grounded beef and underneath my burger I arrange a fresh salad with thin slices of white onion, tomato, homemade pepper relish. On top of the burger I put some truffle mayonaise and melt a slice of good cheddar. Nobody ever complains about not having a bun.

That sounds awesome!!

I actually prefer them for burgers! My husband cannot bear them! He doesn’t “do” the whole sweet and savoury mix, whereas I love it!

I won't eat burgers or hotdogs unless they are on brioche rolls/buns. I love brioche

I can't bear them either, I'm not sure when they started being a thing? It used to be possible to get brioche rolls of various kinds that weren't so sweet, the texture is lovely but none of our family like them with meat. The same goes for brioche submarine rolls for sausages.
It's not that easy to find good bread rolls that aren't too sweet or "claggy" though M&S and Hovis do some.
Personally I'd rather have a chunk of ciabatta than an awful roll, you can crisp them in a wide slot toaster if you cut them in half.

Most beef-burgers are an abomination, whatever bread they're in. Goodness knows what horrors lie therein! Love brioche because yes, it does work gluten free. Beetroot burgers are yummy!

mabon1 🤣 your one liners crease me up! 😁

The true abomination is a burger in a bun - with chips! Two portions of carbohydrates.

mabon1 Fri 26-Apr-24 11:14:42

I think gravy with chips is awful but don't make a song and dance about it on social media.

Thanks for your comments. Nice to know I’m not alone. It’s strange that when I’ve asked for a plain roll they tell me they don’t have them. How easy would it be to keep some frozen rolls to toast for anyone not wanting brioche?

I was just in Lidl and among the various brioche buns were brioche hot dog buns! So wrong! and no sesame seed buns to be had.

I won't eat a burger if it's not in a brioche bun.. Horrible claggy burger buns not for me.
Glad we are all different.

Brioche buns do not go with burgers, would spoil the meal for me.

Brioche buns with a burger? No -not for me! (I'd much prefer one of Joseann's white rolls with my burger.)
Also I love pork but not with apple sauce.
As for gammon with pineapple - never!
However, I'm glad we'er all different as it just comes down to personal taste.

NotSpaghetti Wed 24-Apr-24 08:13:28

mae13 NO - not at all like cheese and fruit cake!
I love rich fruit cake with Lancashire or Wensleydale but - as someone said above, brioche buns and a burger is an abomination!

Mel1967 Wed 24-Apr-24 07:46:05

Love a Brioche bun with a burger.
The best ones I’ve found are from Aldi - without the sesame seeds
