Chatting with a friend recently about childhood holidays. Went with their family to the Lincolnshire coast for many years but told me never went swimming. I was amazed as my family holidays in Wales at the coast we were never out of the sea, swimming, canoeing, splashing, paddling and having a great time (loved to squeal at the cold water!)

Anyone else never swam in the UK?

They forgot their sun hats, but at least there's no knotted hankies on heads ..... typically British.
Oh, and socks with sandals!

I reckon it turned unexpectedly nice, so they adapted as best they could. smile

It's a great picture, though.

😁 😁
I don't know where the photo was taken, but the handbags and holdall also made me smile. Not a towel in sight. Maybe they were all on a day out?!

Yes, it is Southend!

I can remember boys at college wearing suits, perhaps not to the beach but on days out.

Perhaps it was a fashion at the time, before jeans became popular.

It wasn't long before jeans became the new uniform.
