Seems a bit harsh? All that way too. He landed in the UK a few hours ago. Without Meghan and the children.

From the Telegraph just now:

“ The Duke of Sussex will not meet the King this week, the Telegraph can reveal.

Prince Harry, 39, landed in London on Tuesday morning and had made no secret of his hopes to see his father during his visit.

But a spokesperson for the Duke said: “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not The Duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme.

“The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

I just think if the King doesn't ’find time’ to see his son then Harry might well just think ‘sod it’ next time/if he comes over.

I know Harry bad mouthed the family in his book ‘Spare’ but still …

What do you think?

After what Harry has deliberately done being “cold shouldered” is the least he could expect, the last time he came he didn’t stay long.
I can imagine the conversation -
“thank you for visiting Harry, you’ve had your photo opportunity now clear off back to your tart in LA”.

“thank you for visiting Harry, you’ve had your photo opportunity now clear off back to your tart in LA”.

Is that what you would like to have heard - or what you think Charles might have said?

I doubt he'd lower himself to such language.

Anyway - why is M now a "tart" - a disagreeable woman... but a tart - really?

What a vulgar nasty thing to say ! Disgusting that threads about Harry and Meghan always shoe how low people will go with their comments .

I agree with Purplepixie. King Charles should somehow make time for his son. Forget about the press and all arguments Harry should not have to have an appointment to talk with his father that is awful. Prince Harry is travelling to the U.K and Charles surely could take some time out of his day to welcome his son I don.t care what everyone says Harry has done a parent should have unconditional love for their child and be willing to forgive. Prince Harry did not have the perfect role model in Prince Charles there are two sides to every relationship.

Anniebach Wed 08-May-24 16:32:52

Is it known if Harry was available throughout his stay in England?

Smileless2012 Wed 08-May-24 16:48:54

How do you know Charles doesn't have unconditional love for H 3nanny? Has he ever been reported as saying he no longer loves him? In fact anything he has said about him is that he loves him.

How do you know whether or not he's forgiven him? It's not easy forgiving someone who accepts no responsibility for their actions, and H's certainly not taken any responsibility that we know of for his, but that doesn't mean his father hasn't forgiven him.

He may or may not have done but this is also a question of trust isn't it, and despite how much Charles loves H, he may never be able to trust him again and so want little contact.

Unconditional love is loving someone in spite of how much they have hurt you but it isn't a 'get out of free jail card' when it comes to how that relationship may be in terms of contact in the future.

Well said, Smileless.

When trust has gone it's a long road back.

Callistemon21 Wed 08-May-24 16:51:59

I think (but know no more than anyone else on here) that Charles would love to meet Harry's children, too. It's obvious he adores his other grandchildren.

Aveline Wed 08-May-24 16:58:28

If Charles really wanted to see Harry he could easily find time for it. Meanwhile it's 'poor Harry'. Just what he needs for Spare 2 the sequel.

Louella12 Wed 08-May-24 17:05:14

Harry could make the effort to come to visit his father at any time. It really doesn't have to be at a time suitable for him. They could arrange a date suitable for both parties.

No doubt we'll see him on a Netflix show, looking sad with tears in his eyes.

Anniebach Wed 08-May-24 17:06:53

Agree Louella , we don’t know if Harry gave times when a visit was convenient

Smileless2012 Wed 08-May-24 17:11:11

The press would have speculated without a spokesperson for H saying he hoped to be able to see his father, but they had to say it didn't they so if a meeting didn't take place, Charles could be viewed as a heartless and unforgiving father, and poor H the victim.

Hmmmm... if I had an adult child, who had married a woman who, from the very beginning, had brought endless drama, accusations and conflict into the family and, to add to that conflict, had since appeared on several TV shows, written a book, been connected to the publication of another book; all of it making accusations of racism, favouritism, bullying and many provable lies..... I'm not at all sure I'd want to spend any time with either of them. I would still love that adult child but I don't think I'd like them very much. If I added to that scenario that I was elderly, and gravely ill; I think I'd have to postpone any contact until I felt physically and mentally stronger. I suspect that Harry and his missus have a great deal of work to do making amends before they ever get back to anything like a working relationship. And Rachel Markle doesn't have a good track record of maintaining successful working relationships does she?

I agree Smileless. The King is hosting a garden party today which will have been arranged many months ago and probably last year. Harry or his PR team suggesting he would see his father was to make him look good, and now it looks as if he, Harry, is the rejected victim.

In my view H has a deep psychological need to be seen as the victim and for people to feel sorry for him and he consciously or unconsciously sets up situations where this appears to happen.

Katie59 Wed 08-May-24 17:31:10

Families have become estranged over far less damaging revelations than Harry has done it’s going to be a long time before he is accepted, if ever.

Anniebach Wed 08-May-24 17:41:15

He may be forgiven but can he be trusted

Casdon Wed 08-May-24 17:46:13

For the King it could be a case of wanting to avoid drama. If there is no contact, there is no story. I wonder if it’s as simple as that.
As it’s all speculation anyway, that is my guess.

Sparklefizz Wed 08-May-24 18:13:45

Harry unkindly mocked William’s baldness in his book. I see he’s catching up very quickly.

Lovely weather for a garden party.

These engagements are arranged months, years in advance as was Harry's service today.

The damage has been done, Harry's PR continues to spread rumours but the Palace maintains a dignified silence.
We only know one side of the story.

Harry was supported at St Paul's Cathedral by the presence of His Aunt Jane Fellowes and Earl Spencer his Uncle.

Anniebach Wed 08-May-24 19:46:25

Wonder if he knows aunt Jane is the wife of Robert Fellowes,
one of the number accused of murdering Diana

M0nica Wed 08-May-24 20:09:30

How could he not?

Anniebach Wed 08-May-24 20:47:06

Monica 😀 you remember

RosiesMaw Wed 08-May-24 20:56:20

Looking at the pics of Harry arriving at St Pauls, he looks happier than we have seen him look in a while. I’m actually glad Meghan didn’t come with him, it was his day with * his* “ tribe” and she would only have attempted to divert the attention to herself (as at last years Invictus Games)

PuddyCat Wed 08-May-24 20:58:02

Speaking in the church where his parents were married, Prince Harry gave a Bible reading from Isaiah which talked of stopping “the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil”.

Mr Markle has absolutely no self awareness. Having spent 5 years pointing his finger at his father, his brother, his step mother, his sister in law and various unnamed relatives, to anyone who would listen but he's now standing up in a church preaching about the perils of it. As for speaking of evil... he just needs to stand in front of a mirror with Mrs Markle. His hypocrisy and lack of self awareness is breathtaking. I'm glad that none of his relatives, apart from an aunt and uncle, bothered to go and support him. He's reaping what he's sown.

What do you think?

I think the King is astute enough to know that a "full diary" does not prevent him from seeing Harry - however briefly - and that the 'message' he is sending to the public is that he does not want to see him. And that it will be seen as a snub.

Whether there has been any communication between the two privately, we don't know.

I think Harry has been a fool to air his grievances so publicly, that he is emotionally immature, lacks self-awareness and humility. I also believe his background and upbringing has contributed to it.

I also think that blaming Meghan for his sins (as some do) is wrong. He's an adult and made his own choices in life, as we all do, for better or worse. And he still has those choices. But, it was ever thus that women often get the blame for men's behaviour which absolves them of the responsibility of their own actions which, it seems, women somehow have to 'manage'.

As has been mentioned, Charles was not uncritical of his own upbringing, and this gets to the heart of the matter. For however much the RF portray themselves as living the 'normal' family life as the rest of us, they don't. Their great privileges also demand huge personal sacrifices in the sense that they cannot, like the rest of us, do what they want or have the same freedoms, nor the privacy. Their public duties may not seem arduous to those of us struggling to get by on a daily basis, but they are basically a strait-jacket; their lives are 'ordained' by their heritage.

It's all rather sad, not that I spend too much time thinking about the matter. But families around the globe estrange each other, too, it seems to be par for the course of human nature. I would like to see a reconciliation between these two, father and son, but that's probably because I'm old and a bit sad about 'life'... we think we have time on our side and then, in the blink of an eye, it's gone...
