Prince Harry will not meet the King during UK visit.

Seems a bit harsh? All that way too. He landed in the UK a few hours ago. Without Meghan and the children.

From the Telegraph just now:

“ The Duke of Sussex will not meet the King this week, the Telegraph can reveal.

Prince Harry, 39, landed in London on Tuesday morning and had made no secret of his hopes to see his father during his visit.

But a spokesperson for the Duke said: “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not The Duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme.

“The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

I just think if the King doesn't ’find time’ to see his son then Harry might well just think ‘sod it’ next time/if he comes over.

I know Harry bad mouthed the family in his book ‘Spare’ but still …

What do you think?

I've always wondered about the Hitler connection and who was really behind it. I suspect Edward (who was quite a socialist in his youth) was as seduced by the prospect of financial stability as many Germans were. The poverty he saw in working class Britain in the 1930s shocked him.

Yes, I doubt Wallis would have gone off on her own to meet Hitler, Edward was keen too.
It showed a lack of judgement which would not have been a good thing in a Head of State.

There was a widespread belief that Hitler would be good for Germany and would stabilize it. His actions against communists, socialists and even Jews were seen as desirable. Antisemitism was common then, and the establishment feared socialism. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. We shouldn't accept the chosen whipping boy in the RF at any time. It's never that simple.

We shouldn't accept the chosen whipping boy in the RF at any time.

This particular boy will keep seeking publicity and laying himself open to ridicule, though. It's as if he pressed a self-destruct button and can't deviate from that path.
It's very sad.

The RF are not like the rest of us. However we try to understand them and explain away their imperfections, they are a different species.

I remember reading about the plight of the Russian Tzar's family back in 1917. Tzar Nicholas was first cousin to King George V (they looked very alike)
But yet George refused to offer them asylum. The Russian cousins were all executed.

The alarming thing is that the information is presented as ‘fact’ not ‘speculation’ . Of course it won’t be denied by the palace and they know that.

But you despite your protestations, are spreading this gossip, can’t you see that?

There was much known about Edward, Prince of Wales, at the time but not publicised in the British Press He expressed socialist views, certainly, 'something must be done' but did nothing, returning to his life of drunkeness, womanising, laziness and extravagance. His desire to avoid the crown was matched only by the desire of the Royal family and the Government to see him go.

What on earth are you on about? I didn’t say what it was at all. Get real and pull your head in.

I think they are like the rest of us in that they wanted to give sanctuary to their cousins, but political intervention prevented them from doing so.
The British people generally disliked the Russian Tsar and particularly disliked his German wife; this was during WW1.

In fact, I doubt many ordinary British people would have been allowed to bring German relatives over here at that time either.

Her 50 jars of strawberry jam was made from strawberries in
her garden, that’s a lot of strawberries

They were, it seems, made when there weren't any strawberries... however - if they are her fruit she maybe made the jam last strawberry season (or from her frozen fruit) and taken a while to create the labels. Apparently she hasn't bought the URL which is strange.

I think 1kg strawberries will make 4 ordinary jars. Her jars look to be quite small so she may get 5 per kilo.
If so that's only 10kg fruit.

I don't know why anyone doubts 50 jars though. ...

Yes I suppose that would have been a problem Callistemon if the
monarchy was threatened.

But as for disliking the Tzarina, what about the Queen? May of Teck was the daughter of a German. Kaiser Bill was Queen Victoria's favourite grandson. Most of the RF were German as I often tell my German visitors.

Smileless2012 Wed 08-May-24 12:31:04

German people among others who were already living and working in the UK were interned during WW1, so I can understand why it would have been an issue for Russian Tsar and his family to have been allowed to come.

A terrible tragedy for George V to have had to live with.

Callistemon21 Wed 08-May-24 12:31:34

Yes, I know but it was wartime and politicians could over-ride any family feelings.

Here they all are in 1909 at Osborne House.
Some of my family worked there.

Smileless2012 Wed 08-May-24 12:38:31

No doubt there would have been a huge public backlash if they'd been allowed to come. Some turned against friends and neighbours they'd known for years because they weren't British.

I’m going to get shouted at but I do feel sorry for Harry. He has watched as the press hounded his mother and therefore he was unhappy about the way Meghan has been treated. He has to book an appointment to see his own father? What the hell! I am sure the very busy and recovering King Charles could put aside some time to see his own son.

Namsnanny Wed 08-May-24 13:13:03

I did, at one time have sympathy for Harry, but since he turned himself into a victim (aided and abetted by his wife), not so much.

Anniebach Wed 08-May-24 13:17:12

His mother worked with the press, the night she died she and Fayed chose to leave the Ritz knowing the paps were outside

This is funny- as the RF changed their name from their German one to a more British sounding one ie Windsor.

There are all fake and I wonder why people still waste time on them.

Anniebach Wed 08-May-24 14:07:32

Are you judged on what your family did 100 years ago?

Jaberwok Wed 08-May-24 14:27:20

A lot of people changed their surnames, even Christian ones after WW1 and 11. From German sounding names and Jewish sounding names being the most popular. Nothing strange in that. Yes the RF were German through and through from George 1st right up to George V1th who broke this pattern by marrying Scottish Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. Sure EdwardV11th married Alexandra of Denmark, but her father was originally a German Prince. Prince Phillips parentage was essentially German. The mould was however properly broken when Charles married Diana and even more so with William marrying the then Catherine Middleton. Other members of the RF have also broken the link with Germany.

Well, I feel sorry for him too but he is his own worst enemy.

Of course you can't just rock up off an international flight to see someone who's undergoing chemotherapy.

Why would you get shouted at Purplepixie, unless you’re shouting at those who don’t agree?
You have the right to your opinion. Re your statement, I find it strange that Harry is encouraging the press to hound his father who is suffering from cancer. Not the action I would expect from someone who sues the press.
I wouldn’t trust Harry not to broadcast his version of any personal information KC might choose to share if they met. Or to share his opinions of KC’s current condition -rather than leaving the King to publish only as much as he himself wants to share.

Anniebach Wed 08-May-24 15:42:55

Is Harry here for more than one day ?

Callistemon21 Wed 08-May-24 16:09:52

Most posters don't SHOUT on here, Purplepixie!

The press does have a lot to answer for.

I will say, though, that Meghan was welcomed by the Royal Family, was given thorough training in royal protocol and some of what she has claimed may consist of a few porkie pies. I doubt there has ever been such a rapid turnover of handpicked unhappy staff previously in the Royal Family.
