The Dolly Parton quote comes to mind:

"It costs a lot of money to look this cheap"

I’ve seen photos of some of the dresses and just had to roll my eyes. Others were lovely.

I admit to pondering how on earth Cardi B would have managed to go to the loo, given that it took nine men to carry her dress and also whether Nicki Minaj sounded like off-beat wind chimes as she clanked along the (green) red carpet in her metallic flowers. 😂

I admit to only seeing a little of it on the news - what's it all about anyway?
Do they know how utterly ridiculous some of them look? The woman who had to be carried up the steps, some Kardashian woman with a cinched in waist so tight she was gasping to get any air and another needed several men to keep rearranging her dress so she didn't fall flat on her face.

What a charade! And what a message to send out to young girls. There was nothing attractive or beautiful in the ones I saw.

I don’t care how bizarre the outfits are, it’s funny. I do think see through is so tacky though, there’s no need to go naked to get noticed, it just makes you look cheap. Rita Ora, what on earth were you thinking?

It’s become like Disneyland,” says one fashion source on the question of why so many now stay away. “It’s just costume, it’s not fashion, it’s not elevated in any way.” The event has degenerated into a “merry-go-round of social media-fuelled hype,” he suggests.

One fashion insider puts it bluntly: “When I go to the zoo, I want to see an elephant, a lion and a tiger,” she says. “But the Met Gala is now full of meerkats.”

I went to the "Crown to Couture" exhibition at Kensington Palace last year. Some of the exhibits were garments worn at previous Met Galas, and were more outrageous than those I've seen from this year. Others were lovely, with exquisite beading and embroidery. Lots had the women viewing saying "how would you sit down, or how would you go to the loo!" The male outfits at that exhibition, while some a little outlandish, nonetheless would all accommodate sitting, moving and going to the loo.......

I agree that the fashions get more outrageous each year, the main purpose of the Gala is to raise money for charity.

Tickets start at $50,000, when you add in raffle and or auction it raises $millions.

I only saw it on a news programme So stupid some had to be carried up and down steps because the clothes wouldn’t let them move, one woman’s waist was so tiny with big hips and bust either side it took hour glass figure to another level she looked totally wrong I saw Ed Sheren get his foot caught in a big loop off one dress
Absolutely daft and I ve no time for any woman who put herself up for this complete mockery of fashion

They mostly look plain ridiculous. I think most young girls (certainly the ones I know) would think so, too.

Some examples.

A lot of the women looked like porn stars. And I’m no prude but hey - at a red carpet event?

Has anyone seen the photos from the met gala?

Is it supposed to be a mickey take by clothes designers getting their own back on pretentious celebrities or what?

I’m boggled by the lack of clothing in some cases, outrageous designs and just plain weird. The amount of nipples and bottoms on view was amazing. And as for x Kardashian with her ribs supposedly removed and strict corset training all to get a tiny waist, why?

I think it’s really sad that suffragettes and women’s lib fought for equality, all to enable women to have the right to parade around in public in the nude. This is teaching the next generation of girls that to be famous and get somewhere in life that you have to flaunt your boobs and bits.

Where will celebrities go next? Stick a camera up your vagina so we get a full view?

I truly despair for our youngsters.
