Teenage pop star crushes…( a very shallow thread…)

I’m watching a programme about Graham Nash and it got me thinking about people in bands from my youth that I had crushes on. But, decades later there were other members of those groups that were largely ignored ( in a fanciable sort of way) that have aged so much better. Graham Nash is one such example. Roger Waters from Pink Floyd (who, imo morphed into Richard Gere). Charlie Watts from The Stones. Rings Starr has aged particularly well. It’s something I’ve often pondered on over the years but never mentioned it before.

Mick Jagger - ok maybe not aged too well, but phenomenal energy (maybe too much for me 😳 tho)

I was older than a teen, but always rather fancied Prince.
Very sexy man.

Totally agree. Sex on legs. Even though they were quite short legs

Tony Crane, Merseybeats.

We would hitchhike to their gigs in the South West and met him to talk to on 3 occasions, and photos to prove it! Very decent bloke.

I’ve just realised that I have a tiny crush on the Mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham.

Oh yes, Peter Gabriel. Mmm-hmm. And his bald bandmate.
The drummer from Emeli Sande's 'Next To Me' video. There's just Emeli and him in the video, but I don't know his name, nor Peter Gabriel's bandmates name.
I look back now at people like Bryan Ferry and wonder what the heck I was thinking in my teenage years when I thought he was a dish lol. Not that he's ugly, just not as good looking as I recall.
Tho, back in the day, you rarely got a good look at anyone but the main singer.

There was a documentary about them on Sky Arts recently. It’s bound to be repeated at some point and I’ll probably miss it. I often come upon such documentaries whilst channel hopping and end up seeing the last half. I think all these bands end up fighting even though theystart off as friends: look at The Kinks. They did a fabulous album called, I think Scoundrel days but it makes me sad listening to it as I was playing it at the time my dad died. Since then, if anything sad happens in my life I stop playing music completely for a while. Like a lot of bands ( eg The Pretenders) they had to come to the UK to make it in the music industry.

Oddly my music crushes were/are not my type in real life. Paul Weller, Eminem, Donny Munroe....eclectic range of music.

However, a year or so ago i saw (on TV) Morten Harket singing acoustically, i was never a fan back in the day, but he was so good and i will admit to a 'ooooh i say.....' moment! He is now on my list of people i want to see live.

Years ago we had a music club at work. Each month we bought an LP and everyone taped it ( but don’t tell anybody wink). When it was my turn to choose I chose Ah a and was mocked for it. They were deemed to be too pop’y. But they really have stood the test of time and are widely acclaimed. Not sure if they’re still performing together…they seem to split up and reform on a regular basis. Like many bands they seem to hate each other and I can’t help but feel Mortens gorgeousness contributed to it!

I promise not to tell smile Morten was performing at the one the festivals and i was disappointed to have missed him. I didn't realise there was conflict between the band, what a shame.

When i saw him on TV, he seems to have grown into himself and was so charismatic on stage, as well as not appearing to have 'lost' his voice.

DD1’s husband’s mother used to work for Jimmy Page. She had a few stories!

Robert Plant has aged beautifully and he still has that voice and hair!

I agree. And still making new and innovative music.

Yes, Jimmy Page and his bandmate Robert Plant are a living caution against the effects of the Sex and Drugs and Rock'n'Roll lifestyle.

I too had a crush on Scott Walker. At some point I moved onto both Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. Neither have aged well.

MissAdventure Tue 14-May-24 22:58:28

Hmm..
I can see the attraction.
Again, he is a real rock star.

mae13 Tue 14-May-24 22:14:24

Once upon a time, in another century, it used to be Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant. He really looked the part of a Greek God of rock.

But time has not been kind.

Apologies for throwing a bucket of cold water on the threat.

MissAdventure Tue 14-May-24 22:11:36

I liked Alvin Stardust for a while. blush

NotAGran55 Tue 14-May-24 22:02:56

Mine were Peter Frampton and Andy Fairweather Low after seeing them both at the Slough Adelphi in the late 60s.

I’m seeing AFL next week at the RAH supporting Eric Clapton, instead of being part of his band for a change.

I just checked out Cat Stevens, as he seems quite a popular guy.
He was handsome.

Still is. Did an amazing set at Glastonbury last year.
