Small Babies With Headbands

I think they’re awful too and always wonder if they cause headaches.

Babies are cute enough without any additional adornments! Bonnets were to keep little heads warm in the days when we walked everywhere.
I cannot bear wearing hats of any kind and could imagine tight fitting headbands being very itchy for a baby’s soft head. I would imagine most people use them to identify the baby as a girl!

I am something of an ‘oldie’ but I think these bands are quite cute! No worse than a baby bonnet which I think looks silly, unless needed for sun protection. I love current baby ‘fashions’. So much choice, so much free movement for the child and better IMHO than the fussy matinee jackets etc that were once the given. And don’t get me started on the stiff little girls frilly knickers! Just horrible and my girls never wore them despite my mothers obsession with them!

I did see a mum on social media who had one of her identical twins medically tattooed. Apparently it's done under light sedation and the tattoo looks like a small freckle. It was to avoid confusion with medication etc but she still received very mixed comments.

That poor mother, she would soon be criticised if one of the twins received the wrong medication due to them being identical.

I am beginning to think that social media, X, Facebook and forums like GN, MN are giving folks platforms to be judgemental on all and sundry?

Surely they do no more damage than hats, bonnets, the silly elasticated caps that look as if babies are off to milk cows...

I think they look dreadful and wonder whether they do any damage, the babies can hardly complain if they feel uncomfortable or too tight.

I put hats and bonnets on my now adult children and both my GDs wore headbands. Neither had much hair as babies so I guess it was partly to identify them as girls: I didn't ask.
Some culture pierce baby girls' ears at a very young age. In Cyprus, in the 1950s, our landlords had a baby girl, named her after my mum, pieced her ears and put wool in as sleepers, presumably not to hurt her.

I am neither for or against them - I think they are just the latest "cute" (for some) accessory, but I just wanted to say that babies would surely object (at a high volume) if they were too tight or uncomfortable and mine would have whipped it off and thrown it out of the pram (as they did with woolly bonnets in Winter and frilly hats in Summer!)

I couldn't agree more . I thought it was just me that didn't like them . Even today , I don't like anything around my head . I'm sensitive to most materials.

I'm afraid it isn't, locally it seems to be across the range of British mothers. Most "eastern european" mothers that I see have well-dressed children without unneccessary adornments!

I don't like them either, they're just unecessary. I don't like the big bows that parents put on school children's hair either, some schools have banned them.

At least a bonnet serves a purpose - either warmth or protection from the sun. Silly headbands are a stupid craze. Babies look cute without them, and really - headbands are for when a human being has hair!

I think it's about the fad to accessorise absolutely everything. Like little dogs with diamante collars etc. Which is about objectification. About turning your tiny baby into a sort of statement / fashion accessory. Maybe I'm just over analysing lol

I'm not a fan but they look even worse when the poor baby has pierced ears as well

I'm not a fan of headbands on babies .
I wonder if their mothers are trying to disguise the bald spot at the back of the head , which most babies have temporarily .
I also think that it's best to wait until a child asks to have her ears pierced .
That's what I did !
I guess that we all think that we are right !

I am surprised that a piercer, or whatever they are called, is willing to do it.

Exactly. I think there should be some kind of age limit for it.
