Small Babies With Headbands

Why do some mothers insist on putting bands around their babies’ little heads? To add insult to injury, the bands invariably have a big bow on them! Am I the only one who thinks they look utterly ridiculous?
I’m not a miserable old fuddy daddy and have no problem with pretty much all other baby fashions but I hate the look of this!

I suppose I was never bothered about whether my babies looked like girls or boys. They probably all looked like girls to be honest as they all had pretty long hair right from birth.

Ouch petra we bought a flat screen just a few months ago!

I’m another one who thinks they are awful.

They do seem to be popular with young women of, dare I say, a certain class.

So they look naff and are dangerous as well, into room 101 with them.

My grandson was brought home from hospital at two days old wearing denim jeans and matching jacket.

Like a tiny inmate of The Scrubs.😂

There has been a thread about this before. My biggest concern is safety.

From the Manchester Evening News:
"Parents warned over big bow headbands after death of 14-week-old baby. A mum is warning parents of the dangers of big bow headbands after her young baby suffocated. The 14-week-old baby is reported to have died after the bow slipped over her nose while she lay in her carry cot."

I like baby boys to look like babies not old men. I see tiny ones wearing shoes (they can’t even walk), jeans, waistcoats and flat caps!!

😂

I personally think they look rather silly. Thankfully my daughters never used them on my granddaughters. Never had them in my day😂

i meant ‘very soft’

Flappergirl - that would be illegal. I assumed they were just to indicate that the baby was a girl.I don’t see a problem as long as they are very sot the parents ensure that the child isn't left alone with the headband on. I met a 7 month old today who is already disliking anything on her head and resists having her coat put on!

They seem to be the polar opposite of how things are today, with gender neutral, unisex people and the use of "they" rather than he or she.

They are pointless bits of girlie frivolity that serve no purpose.

It makes a change from eyebrows, false eyelashes, fillers, hair extensions, false nails, chicken fillets and that good old bashing standby, flat screen tellies.

flappergirl Thu 16-May-24 21:28:28

I'm just amazed that I haven't seen a baby with a tattoo yet.

Skydancer Thu 16-May-24 21:24:40

They are ridiculous and common.

Astitchintime Thu 16-May-24 21:23:23

They look almost as daft as little happy dogs with bows in their hair

PaperMonster Thu 16-May-24 21:17:12

Think they’re flipping horrible.

pably15 Thu 16-May-24 20:59:22

when I see a baby with one of these headbands, I think poor little mite, I imagine if I had one on my head I'd be wanting it off

Louella12 Thu 16-May-24 20:44:20

Can't stand them but it's not my business

Shelflife Thu 16-May-24 20:28:00

I don't think parents have the right to pierce their child's ears !!!! The ears belong to the child not the parent - it is boardering on assault! Why not wait till the child is old enough to want their ears pierced and old enough to consent y the procedure.

Deedaa Thu 16-May-24 19:56:38

Both my two loathed anything on their heads so I'm sure my daughter wouldn't have put up with a headband.

Grandma70s Thu 16-May-24 19:49:42

I’ve always assumed they were to show the baby was a girl. It can be difficult to tell whether young babies are boys or girls. (My elder son was usually assumed to be a girl, because he had golden curls. Do only girls have golden curls?)

rafichagran Thu 16-May-24 19:33:12

I don't like them, they look dreadful to me, but it's up to the parents.

Labradora Thu 16-May-24 19:33:02

My friend, who is Croatian , had her baby photographed in a headband , similiar to the little girl in Joseann's picture, nearly 30 years ago.
The little girl was very unusual looking( in a good way) and the headband suited her.
Hopefully bonnets were more the order of the day when the weather demanded it.
I never thought of the headband being harmful . It didn't seem to have harmed my friend's now 30 year old daughter who's as smart as paint.
Each to their own ; this is fashion for the very young I think.
