Should I risk eating it? I made it last December.

We always had a posse of Gransnetters ready, willing and able to test cakes and puddings. 😁

At Christmas, I stock up on Christmas puddings so that I can eat them all year round. It should be safe to eat even if it's passed it's date.

I've got an M&S one from Xmas 2022. We will eat it soon. Do you remember when the top tier of your wedding cake was kept for the first babies christening?

Allex50 Wed 22-May-24 12:07:19

Yep! I have just found one so I'm inviting everyone back to finish our Christmas meal.

yes should be fine. I have bought christmas puddings and kept them for another year on purpose and they have been great

SheepyIzzy Wed 22-May-24 13:40:08

Enjoy it!

I have several Christmas Cakes from 2022 boozed and wrapped up, waiting to be scoffed!

1 good recipe split between 2 or 3 tins depending on which tins used. Last one we opened was Christmas, slapped on some roll on marzipan/icing, very nice!

We have been known to do that too!

I do admit there are some gathering dust in our house, but we open, sniff, and as long as they smell fine and are fur free, 60 seconds in microwave and instant or tinned custard, or canned whippy cream (proper fancy here!!) pud for that day!

Will taste delicious well matured. I assume theres booze in it with that and the fruit and sugar be moist and sticky. Some nice vanilla custard 😋

It wouldn't even occur to me to throw it away, I don't usually even check the date. We've had puddings that were three years old, though we usually steam them rather than microwave as they can dry out a little.

Sometimes after Christmas I buy puds at a reduced price - and keep them for ages. (I enjoy Christmas pud more when it's eaten at another time of year - when there's less rich or "special food" around.) Have done this with home-made Christnas puds, too.

Mum found a Christmas cake in the pantry- Molly O roukes Irish whiskey cake) it’s one you have to open with a tin opener, 15 yrs old- any way we tried it, best cake I have ever had

Of course! My daughter and I ate one last Xmas made for the previous Xmas. Poured some port on it and had it with cream. Lush.

I've got one in the cupboard that I made at least 5 years ago. They get better and better with age. Have eaten some in the past that have been over 8 years old with no ill effects

Now that’s what I call forward planning, well done you.

What’s tardigrades?

NotSpaghetti Thu 23-May-24 00:27:49

They are mico-animals

NotSpaghetti Thu 23-May-24 00:49:41

And indestructible

DrWatson Thu 23-May-24 16:27:09

If you're in doubt about eating those wretched things --- turn them into bird food. Probably the best solution anyway.

M0nica Thu 23-May-24 19:00:37

sacrilege!

NotSpaghetti Thu 23-May-24 21:38:07

For goodness sake, it's only May - the pudding isn't even one yet!

We used to make a spare to have at Easter and it was always delicious.
