If you can manage financially - would you pay more tax, for better public services?

I think lots of people say^yes I would pay more tax^ when they know that Labour will not increase the lower tax rate, but will increase the higher rates.

Yes : but my tax rate isn't 40%.

There’s some people on here who 1) really don’t know how the benefit system works iro for anyone without a British passport and 2) has perhaps forgotten how many people live on low incomes and struggle and how we really need to care and look after people more vulnerable than ourselves. Whatever happened to compassion? Most of us, if not all, have worked most of our lives, some are still working. This country is in a bit fat mess, some of this is down to underfunded public services, lack of doctors, nurses, dentists, policeman, teachers. Without decent public services frankly we are all screwed.

No, I pay quite enough already on my lowish pension. It’s hard enough coping with all the other regular increases (that we have no say on, they just happen - water, heating, council tax, food, petrol for example), without then having the burden of even more taxation on our pensions or savings (if you have any).
So much money is wasted/lost on seemingly frivolous things and on unworkable ideas such as the Rwanda one, on false expenses claims and other fraudulent behaviour etc, etc. Sort these things out first and use money saved more effectively before taking yet more off the general population.

I would if it was specifically directed towards environmental issues, the NHS and social services but I don't believe it would be spent to benefit those areas..

You could genuinely claim that the world (country) had gone to hell in a handcart, if there were no public services (eg NHS). This country is nowhere near that stage yet.

Until the money from our taxes goes to help the people from the towns and cities who have paid tax into this countries tax system and not to immigrants who are mainly benefit seekers then no, I do not want to pay more tax. We would not be in this mess if we had not overcrowded our country. This also goes for all the other countries that has done the same and are now regretting it. Our NHS has fallen apart due to it being overloaded with people who do not work and are on benefits. I am 81 and pay tax because I am just over the threshold for claiming benefits, once I have paid for dental treatment, optical treatment etc. I am worse off than people who claim benefits, all because I saved into a small private pension. This world has gone to hell in a hand basket.

Most taxes don't go to immigrants or benefit seekers.

If you are just over the threshold for claiming benefits, you hardly pay any tax.

Incidentally, my pension is over the limit for claiming Pension Credit, I pay income tax but I don't pay for dental or optical treatment because I have an NHS Low Income certificate - maybe you should investigate.

We are “comfortable” not in any way wealthy but are mortgage free, both retired with modest, but meaningful private pensions, modest savings and we would both pay higher taxes in return for better, more effective and efficient public services and to give public sector workers meaningful pay increases.

If taxes go up by X% I increase my business expenses and declare a lower profit to account for the increase. If I was on PAYE I would just get shafted.

No we have worked and paid taxes all our life some people have not worked or paid taxes but still get the same services.
Even as pensioners we are paying tax so why should we pay more.

No having paid tax all our working lives, at times at higher rate and still paying tax now in retirement I wouldn't be in agreement in paying any more. Feel we've done our bit.
