How on earth can this type of stunt gain votes?

Ed Davey spoke after the head to head on ITV last night, made a good speech I thought, but lack of attention as to costings.

Apparently each stunt was supposed to contain a message eg the one on water about water pollution, another about MH but I don't think they were clear enough

What Aveline says, people will go by local MP's or how Lib Dem councillors have worked for them or not. Since they aren't electing PM it isn't as crucial

But Davey has to change his approach.

Our former Tory MP was actually an excellent and very active constituency MP, but that didn’t stop him losing to the LDs at the GE before last. IIRC it did have to go to a recount, though.

... as long as none of them are snapped tucking into a bacon sandwich in an upmarket eatery in New Covent Garden (does anyone look elegant when biting into one of those?).

I don't know why they do it. We are a more sophisticated electorate than we were 50 years ago and don't think these stunts are endearing to voters, and leave the prospective candidates open to ridicule in the media.

It's such a pity. I have met Ed Davey and think he is a truly kind and honourable human being, but I find the constant stunts so embarrassing that I don't admit to supporting Lib Dems. I wish they would stop but, as stated previously, assume they see this as the only way to get any publicity. Am truly depressed by our current electoral system.

It is - and there are plenty more photos of him doing other ridiculous stunts. It is equally ridiculous for people to say they won’t vote LibDem because Davey is doing stunts, if they happily voted Tory when Boris was. There is no difference.

At least he isn’t waving flags at the same time. I suppose it gets him, and by default his party, noticed, which would probably not happen if he didn’t do stunts.

Yes he looks as bad as Davy, but nothing wrong with waving our flag, after all he was the PM /Mayor, so far in the past I cant remember.
At least it was ours he was waving.

Boris Johnson sometimes looked a bit daft to say the least.

... and those photo's of him jogging with a woolly hat and flowery shorts were not flattering.

But it didn't stop people voting for the Conservatives, because he'd promised to do what they wanted.

I'm more concerned with the enthusiasm he showed when the Lib Dems were in coalition with the Conservatives, as energy and climate change secretary, for foreign investment in our energy sector - by countries such as China.

And didn't he say last year that women can "quite clearly" have penises when asked on LBC? If he thinks that - what would that mean for any plans or policies concerning women's spaces, like single-sex wards? I don't want to start a row over trans rights etc, but many of us want to keep the single sex changing rooms, and other 'intimate' spaces.

So these things I think are more important than him looking a right wally on an inflatable.

I wish that his LibDem MPs were as enthusiastic . I used to live in an area with a Lib Dem - what a lazy person.

I have no idea of who to vote for - but the 3 main parties have no candidate worth voting for

One in Derbyshire has been reported to the police and the Electoral Commission ... dirty tricks is all they have left.

They are very strange leaflets (pictures included)

We all know his name and are talking about him. All publicity is good publicity.

I dislike it and it will probably soon. But it gained the Lib Dems, who have to struggle to get any media attention, the back page of the Sunday Times. And it isn't as though the other parties' campaigns so far are anything to write home about.

So it likes like the Tories again for me but don't think they'll get in this time.

I'll vote LibDem but it's despite these embarrassing antics and because our local LD candidate is a good man and politician.

As regards ED, he has solid life experience of being a 'Carer', both growing up and as a parent of a child with disabilities. This doesn't make him a saint but hopefully a compassionate person in power. The antics are dreadful though
