I’ve got the heating on, I’m still waiting for spring, let alone Summer☹️

GrannyGravy13 Fri 31-May-24 11:38:17

I have just been on a Treasure Hunt with my 4yr old GS.

Trail cut out through farmers fields, freezing cold, windy and raining.

It seemed like such a good idea yesterday evening, if only I had checked the weather forecast…

It’s horrible here in North Norfolk. Very windy - some plants blown over - raining - some roses spoiled - and cold. Flaming June tomorrow …

Norah Fri 31-May-24 11:47:35

Soon, heat will be off and complaints "too warm" will begin.

However, not soon enough!

Cossy Fri 31-May-24 12:01:17

It’s also horrible in Essex! More like February than almost June!

I'm tired of jeans and warm tops. I've worn a skirt 3 or 4 times, twice for 'special occasions' and only twice because the weather seemed warm enough.
Whatever the reason, (global warming, jet stream etc) it looks like this weather pattern is here to stay and we're just going to have to adapt to it.
We may do our feeble best to recycle and restrict plastics, but the huge power plants and factories belching out pollutants in some countries, like China, are making fools of us.
Warmer weather will come and as Norah says, we'll be saying 'too hot' and the hosepipe bans will start.

Just got in and moved the thermostat for heating till it clicked on. Feels like January

GrannyGravy13 Fri 31-May-24 12:07:21

Cossy I am not that far from you, have just given in and put the heating on. I am still trying to warm up from my Farm trauma 🤣🤣🤣

GS is hugging the radiator.

It's meteorological summer tomorrow and I've been out in warm trousers, jumper and waterproof jacket. Is winter setting in early after we had a few warm days last week?

pascal30 Fri 31-May-24 12:16:36

The Met Office have predicted a warmer than average summer.. wonder when summer starts..

MaizieD Fri 31-May-24 12:18:54

It was lovely up here a couple of days ago, but today it's overcast and cold. Not raining, though.

I'm sitting in a cold house because DH has come down with covid and I'm leaving outside doors and the windows open to hopefully disperse the virus particles.. keeping fingers crossed that I don't get it too.. He's allowed to go into to two well ventilated rooms only...

I recall that one of the hottest and driest summers in the mid 1970s was preceded by snow in the north in early June.

My oak trees are in full leaf whereas the ash trees have only just started leafing up

Ash before the oak,
We shall have a soak.
Oak before the Ash,
We shall have a splash..

I'm sure most of us know this 😆

Indeed GSM. A heavy metal seat has blown over in our garden, the roses are wrecked and the branches on the trees are swirling round and round. It is truly rotten weather.

JaneJudge Fri 31-May-24 12:43:44

what is going on with the weather?

MissAdventure Fri 31-May-24 12:53:05

I've got my heating on.
Have tried to resist, but it's blooming cold!

Greta Fri 31-May-24 12:59:49

I was not familiar with the ash and the oak rhyme. Thank you for that. I heard about the ash dieback not so long ago. Sad news.
Here in Hampshire, as in 'Hertfordshire, Hereford, and Hampshire hurricans hardly happen..." But it's very blustery!

Greyduster Fri 31-May-24 13:22:07

According to the forecast we are set to have wall to wall sunshine most of next week here in South Yorkshire. At the moment it is blowing a gale and I am wearing a polo neck sweater with a fleece over it!!

RosiesMaw Fri 31-May-24 13:23:56

Here too!

T shirts lying unworn in the drawer and I’m still wearing my vests! grin

I believe it might be at 2.30 on the 31st of August.
If wet, in the Church Hall.

MissAdventure Fri 31-May-24 13:26:05

grin

Marydoll Fri 31-May-24 13:39:55

I am ways cold, but I am sitting in the conservatory, in a short sleeve dress, with doors wide open. It's 62°C, the sun is shining.
Makes a change for Glasgow.

Witzend Fri 31-May-24 13:43:54

I’ve got my sheepskin house boots* on, and a really big thick cosy cardi on top of 2 other layers.

*TBH I’ve hardly had them off so far this year!

soothed Fri 31-May-24 13:45:17

It is a bit chilly!
