A new, would-be scam

The other day dh answered a call on our rarely-used landline.

Caller (very RP voice) - ‘Am I right in thinking I’m speaking to the owner of the house?’

Dh: ‘Which house?’

Caller: ‘Thank you - goodbye!’

So we don’t know what the scam would have involved, but the fact that it was the landline makes us think they are targeting people who (they hope!) will be elderly, naive and particularly vulnerable.

I think this is one of those scams where they try to get you to say yes so they can use it in some nefarious way..so never say yes, or no, to anyone you don't know is the answer..

My favourite and very useful comment I make if ever I get a phone call that I dont trust is to say in a firm voice, Just to let you know that all my calls are recorded. If it is anything dodgy they usually put the phone downm It works a treat and in one case I had a call left on my answerphone that sounded very suspicious and so I was able to take the recording to the police and let them hear it and there was something going on in the area at the time
