Good Morning Friday 7th June 2024

Good morning from a bright but still cool Bristol.
DS and I had a quiet day yesterday. He’s having trouble with his laptop on which he marks IB English exam papers. The battery has gone, no one seems to understand why, not even his tech guy in India. But he is still managing to use it, with charger (not recommended).
I had a good tai chi class and felt well exercised after it.
We had planned on staying here for dinner, but at 530, DD texted to ask us if we could come round anyway. Scramble to pickup my salad dinner to take, battle the traffic (he’s got a car) and have dinner with them and her FiL. Nice evening.
Today, Spanish then Addis coming to lunch, after which we shall compose a letter to my bank. A formal complaint because they have refused to refund me a brass farthing! I am very distressed by this.

I have already been very busy, I looked at my desk diary and I unearthed a significant birthday on monday. Present and card stash can come in useful. I repurposed wrapping paper etc and by the skin of my teeth, this present will/should arrive on monday. A car ride to get to post office by 9

The cultured butter I made is amazing, so I have made small portions and they are freezing, apart from one, to have on my hm sd bread. 650g of organic butter, salted with crystals

I must do some sorting and tidying later plus a bit of aerobic exercise

Good morning from Malta where it is hot and sunny.

Thank you all so much for your kindness yesterday, I was moved to tears by your support.

It is a public holiday here so I have a day off and am still in bed with my tea.

My hairdresser was poorly yesterday so first chore of the day will be washing my hair, then a few jobs to do before the tennis starts.

The boys were angels yesterday, it was as if they knew I was feeling sad and they certainly helped cheer me up.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Going to be a dry day today (but they said that yesterday and it wasn’t!). All my plants need to go back in place today on the cleaned patio and then we’ll be ready to sit out again. The back garden is looking pretty good at the moment. I have a gardener that I use coming round this evening to discuss some changes to the front to make it easier to manage.
Volunteering this afternoon. I don’t know where this week has gone.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I’m still in bed but it feels sunny!
After our trip to the garden centre yesterday, we arranged some more plant supports on the plants in the back garden which have grown enormously. Must be all the rain. OH cut the law so all looks good.
I will finish off typing the minutes from Wednesday’s WI committee meeting before going to see my seamstress. I bought a beautiful dress from the Toast sale earlier this year. I wore it for my birthday lunch. Thing is, I’m a DD woman and the front of the dress was rather low so I had to use a brooch to reduce the gap! My seamstress (when I say ‘my’, I have used her before) is very popular and today is the earliest she can fit me in.
That’s it, except a pile of ironing. OH will do his while I’m out and I’ll do mine when I get back home.

Morning Mick, morning All from a clear corner of Hampshire

After a few very enjoyable and restful days away we’re off home later. No rush, will meander across country to avoid motorways. Far too well fed and very relaxed other than a frustrating hay fever bout which just won’t respond to treatment. I’ll miss this location, Langstone harbour outside the windows, squirrels to watch and constant birdsong.

I’m so sorry grandmattie. Please don’t give up, as karma suggests there are ways to involve others in your fight. My thoughts are with everyone carrying distress

Good morning from a bright and sunny Torbay.

I hope that the good memories you have from your younger days with your relative help to diminish the sadness you feel at the moment, Bellasnana.

DH arrived safely yesterday after his journey from la Sarthe by rail with all the trains running on time. We enjoyed a lovely relaxed time over dinner despite me having migraine dazzles beforehand, probably from having a busy day washing, ironing, bed changing, etc.

I do hope you are successful in gaining some redress from your bank, grandMattie. Contacting Martin Lewis sounds like an excellent idea.

I have contacted a very kind young man at the financial ombudsman who says I have to write a formal letter of complaint to the bank, give them up to 35 calendar days to reply before they will take me up.
SiL has a friend who deals with that sort of thing in another bank and she will check their and my letters before sending a reply. She says that they should refund me everything.. It is taking soooo long.
I had forgotten how wearing it is to be “poor” - not that I am “rich”, but I didn’t have to worry about every extra little thing I wanted e.g. a bundle of asparagus.

I think it’s nice to allow him that courtesy - I sometimes check and then go back to sleep knowing all is well in the GM world.

Good Morning all from a very sunny North Leicestershire.

Usual Friday for me - egg farm, butcher's, Waitrose and florist. This afternoon I am doing some baking.

Unusually, this evening I am going to a Music Evening where I will be shaking a bucket and hoping lots of people donate to AgeUk's Dementia Service.

I don't often post but read the good morning thread every day. Mick starting every morning is a tradition on the site and works well, just one thread to follow.

Anyway, good morning from clear blue skies and wall to wall 🌞 in N Bucks.
After meeting my D’s FIL for lunch at the William Morris gallery in Walthamstow yesterday we popped into a small but lovely exhibition of Japanese folk art- fabrics and pottery mostly. The kimonos dated back to the late 19th C but could have been yesterday, they were so classic and “modern”
Then a hot drive home with my R knee really hurting. I stopped at S Mimms just to stretch it out, check that the motorways were not too congested and then allowed myself the luxury of the air con!
My friend Barbara’s funeral today- one of her sons and his family must be staying in the house as I saw lights across the garden when I went to bed. It was sad, I could almost have imagined the last 4 weeks had never happened and she was “home” 😢

So sorry to hear of the sad loss of a close relative Bellasnana. I’m glad the twins cheered you up. I am so sorry that you have not been recompensed as yet for your losses GM. The best of luck to you. Will you be visiting France over the summer Ashcombe?

Well, 18 hours and all packed and ready to go before we were due to go on our Saga river cruise, they called us and gave us the option to cancel as many of our stops would not be happening as the Danube has burst its banks in places with the river level extremely high. The embarkation point was also 3.5 hours away from the airport. More heavy rain is forecast. We were upset but now feel we have dodged a bullet. That will be 2 cruises in a row which have gone horribly wrong. We spent yesterday looking for an alternative holiday which had to exclude quite a few dates for various reasons. We are going to Gran Canaria at the end of this month. June is not the best month to be looking for a summer holiday as so much has already been sold.

Good morning from Durham where a cool cloudy day is forecast. The building crew will be here soon, living in a goldfish bowl has made this long week. Coffee with a friend this morning will get me out of the house.
I’m hoping Bonnybanko’s post was an observation and not a criticism? Very odd.
My thoughts are with those, especially Doodle who face a difficult day today and in the coming days.

Plenty of laundry for the line and iron. A weekend supermarket shop and this and that today.
Got caught up in the DDay commemorations yesterday. Our City had 3 well attended events and the TV coverage was moving.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 10°, windy and there's rain in the air. glammagran that's a pity that your holiday was cancelled. Maybe cruises aren't for you!
Yesterday I achieved a fair amount. I washed the bird bath and set up a solar powered fountain in it, cleaned the kitchen and hoovered throughout. I weeded both the front and back gardens as well. Dgs1 was on a nursery trip to Almond Valley heritage park. He had a wonderful time. Dgs2 isn't too well. It might be a virus working on him.
Today I have no plans. Dd was planning to come round after play group, but if dgs2 isn't well, he won't be going. So I'm not sure if she'll visit or not. I'm having katsu chicken curry for dinner. Have a good day all.
