I plan to start my refurbishment of a bird table which someone threw out and which needs some tlc I plan to paint it blue. Also swimming later, but a bit of tiidying up first. The joys of retirement!

I have my gardener coming today to cut hedges.

Nothing much today. Staying out of the heat hopefully.
Yesterday was a terribly disappointing day so I'm sulking and in a foul mood.

Been swimming this morning, which was delightfully refreshing. Came out to a wall of heat though. I shall retreat indoors to the back of the house this afternoon, where it’s cooler, and read my book. Reading “Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow” - almost gave up on it initially, but persevered and quite enjoying it now. Quite a tender love story, and the backstory of making computer games is quite interesting.

I've been to the gym today, which is at least air conditioned so cool as one gets sweaty. and yes it's boring! but I need the exercise. I intend to watch Escape to the Country next, that's if it's not disrupted by the friggin' football. Afterwhich I'll read in the garden before preparing dinner.

Yesterday a gorgeous day, I did my annual trip to put flowers on my parents' grave. Afternoon cream tea in beautiful nearby village of Alfriston where buildings go back as far as the 13th century and the vistas are stunning in the surrounding countryside. Came home we both fell asleep from carb overload, useless for the rest of the day.

Oh dear henetha!
Let Gransnet cheer you up 🤔
Well, some threads.

I'm just rather fed up. But a friend called for coffee this morning which was lovely.

I’m having a quiet day, doing little apart from walking the dog before 7am and cleaning/tidying through the whole house. I’ve changed the bed, the washing is on the line and I’m looking forward to an icy cold Mojito in a wee while.
There’s been a pleasant breeze all day but now it’s dropped off it is too warm to go outside 🙄, thankfully it’s looking like it will be cooler for the next few days but no rain so I will need to water the pots this evening.

Funeral, followed by yet another tricky meeting.
Not going to be a good day.

LucyAnna2 Thu 27-Jun-24 10:07:11

Oh dear, fancythat, hope your day goes as well as it can.
Seems cooler here today, which is good for me. Meeting some friends for a coffee later. Bit of hoovering and general tidying first.

henetha Thu 27-Jun-24 10:31:00

Thanks Callistemon 213. You are right, GN always cheers me up. I'm annoyed at myself for being such a grump and am trying to get back on track.
Meeting a friend for coffee was a good idea. Hope you are ok.

I was a grump last week Henetha, unusual for me, but then I went to the cinema with my daughter-in-law and 14-year-old grandson. My daughter-in-law dolled out slabs of chocolate which immediately ran down our hands in the heat. When we got back to my flat she went to the loo with her handbag across her chest and somehow her flask of hot chocolate emptied itself into her pulled-down knickers and all over the floor. You couldn't make it up. We were in tears from laughing so much and I felt well and truly cheered up. 🤣

Aldom Thu 27-Jun-24 11:28:41

Mitzuma your story has made me laugh. I can't wait to tell my daughter.

GN can, of course, make you more grumpy henetha 😁

Callistemon213 Thu 27-Jun-24 11:39:33

Getting there, henetha, thank you it's going to take a while.

That’s the kind of ‘accident’ my Jack Russell would have been happy to help clean up! 😂

Taichinan Thu 27-Jun-24 13:09:07

Thanks for that 'laugh out loud' moment Mizuna - I needed that today! Can't shift this awful tiredness - so frustrating.

We babysat DGS5 last night and slept over to spend the day with him today. . Some time before 6 he shook me awake to ask whether there are sharks in Poland (he has no connection at all with Poland, or with sharks come to that). We walked to the library then decided to go on to a local garden centre so that he could show us the resident parrot and giant tortoises. I like to promote public transport whenever possible so we went on the bus. Big mistake - I will never learn. grin On leaving we had an hour long wait at a bus stop in the middle of nowhere until the two missing buses rolled up together. We were dressed for the sunny weather we’d set off in - now it was chilly and drizzly. I must have looked particularly haggard by that time as a lovely young woman immediately leapt up and absolutely insisted I take her seat on the bus.

I’m looking forward to a very large glass of wine later this evening….

fancythat Fri 28-Jun-24 07:45:18

LucyAnna2 - it went better than it might have done. Thanks.

What am I doing today? Looking after someone with assumed norovirus.
Not fancying my chances against it myself. But we shall see.

Seems to me, trouble is, if someone gets it, they need looking after. And going by where or should I say who it was caught from, only seems to take 5 hours of someone looking after someone with it, for they themselves to go down with it.

Mollygo Fri 28-Jun-24 15:47:48

Not much today. Walking the dog across a wild field, I put my foot in a hole and twisting to save myself, I hurt my back. Hence heat pack and painkillers.
On the good side, DH suggested we have Chinese takeaway for dinner, rather than stand round prepping and cooking.
Won ton soup mmmm

LucyAnna2 Fri 28-Jun-24 17:02:22

Bit cooler today, so got a fair bit done in the garden this morning. Roses doing well this year. Then went for lunch with a friend - she’d made a delicious Greek salad, which we had with baby roasted potatoes. Lovely!
Babysitting tonight for DD.

henetha Sat 29-Jun-24 11:06:10

Thanks all you GN friends. I'm back to my normal placid self now, more or less.
That made me chuckle, Mizuna.
You are right, Callistemon , there are just one or two on GN who have the opposite effect. I mostly just ignore them.

LucyAnna2 Sat 29-Jun-24 11:26:44

Best approach, henetha smile

Cooler here today. Just been to the Farmers market in town and gave a lovely haul of tasty looking goodies! New potatoes, local cheese, a bunch of colourful dahlias, tomatoes and a sourdough loaf.
Clearing out the garden shed now, ready for repainting.

Redcar Sat 29-Jun-24 12:31:08

Not doing much today as my strained back is stopping me from doing anything useful! Have done some ironing. I had two bedrooms painted and recarpeted this week, so now need to put back all the spare bedding etc. will have to do this slowly. A rest in the garden with an ice cream may be needed later.

LucyAnna2 Sun 30-Jun-24 07:42:44

Off to Bristol later to pick up DD and family from the airport after their holiday in Majorca. They usually take their car and leave it at the airport, but theirs broke down last week the day before sad. DH has had it sorted for them, so all ok now. Lunch out at a pub I imagine. Then possibly watching the football later, if we can bear it!

DanniRae Sun 30-Jun-24 07:55:27

A family gathering this afternoon at my son and lovely d-in-laws. They have a new baby son....2 weeks old next Wednesday... so easier for them to stay put and all of us to go to them. We are having a takeaway (pizza) to celebrate my birthday (which is actually tomorrow.) I love it when we are all together so looking forward to it!! smile

merlotgran Sun 30-Jun-24 09:40:41

Lunch at DD’s today and we had half an hour of rain early this morning so I’ve been able to swerve my watering stint at the allotment.

A lazy morning planned just pottering about. My houseplants could all do with a feed.
