Right now I'm deciding whether to put on a midge jacket to go and dig out some ragwort.

I think it is worth pointing out that although many of us read Good Morning, for me and for personal reasons which I won’t elaborate on, some choose not to post.
This thread is giving us a chance to relate our daily doings,
For myself it will be the usual day indoors pottering and reading.

Hello what are you doing today would be better I think, as it's well into the afternoon now and I'm only just reading the thread.
Anyway I'm sitting here admiring the cantilever parasol on the patio. My son in law spent several hours earlier today setting it up for me. I'm delighted with it. All I need now is the sun.

Me too. If someone doesn’t want to post on GM for some reason, why would they do so elsewhere? The unpleasantness last week over an attempted rival thread is still at the front of my mind.

Somehow this thread's format is more casual than GM's, at least to me. That is in no way a criticism of the GM threads. But I have often wanted to post something on GM or in the Soop Kitchen but ended up not doing so because I felt I couldn't replicate the tone that those wonderful threads have developed.

It's just a subtle difference that has mattered to me. I hope Sallywally and others will keep doing this format as well.

PS and, yes, a Hi Y'all, wotcha doing today?' opener would work well, I think.

On the other threads there is something of a having to keep up with everyone else sort of feeling. This absolutely is what some people want and it's fine.

But I for one can't even keep up with myself at the moment so a casual comment about digging out ragwort does the job.

The GM thread is pretty cliquey

I don’t think so. New posters receive a warm welcome.

Started the day at my sister and brother in laws house in Somerset, where we have been visiting, visited the National Trust property at Lytes Cary We found the guides there were well-informed on a wide variety of topics and that they had not been dragooned by the National Trust into having to tell us one story about the property only, regardless of our interests. Such a change from the average NT visit. We had some delicious pasties in the cafe for lunch and then drove home to Oxfordshire.

Later I will read the meter, put the rubbish out and do a bit of gardening and prepare a shopping list ready to go to the market in a local town tomorrow morning.

Well I am too late for Good Morning and have had a duvet day following my covid jab yesterday afternoon. Cold and shivery this morning then my temperature zoomed up at midday. More paracetamol now and a small cup of tea with a honey sandwich. That is a family favourite which has got us through many childhood ailments. Then maybe some more shuteye. Hope this is a 24 hour wonder.

I don't post on the GM thread but I read it every day. It is NOT cliquey.
It's a friendly thread, anyone is welcome.

Another here who doesn’t think it’s ‘cliquey’. It’s a mixed bag. Some (very) wealthy people, some middle of the roaders, some (me, last year) with an overdraft, no ISAs, no premium bonds and an 18 year old car. But - here’s the rub - everyone is lovely! No competition at all. Some do have better health, more energy and (unlike me) are really excellent at crafting, baking etc but I can say, hand on heart - I believe everyone is made welcome, posts are long, short and in between - but we all get listened to, appreciated with kindness and over the years, virtual friendships are made as we all care about one another.

I agree, Urms. I always read GM but have nothing to post about because I live a very quiet, but contented, life.
