Looking For A Sofa: Colour Choices Are Underwhelming!

Not sure where you are looking but my daughter had new sofas in fabulous colours.
Mustard, a cross between teal and kingfisher and a sort of bottle green.

I agree they are a very good company our sofa and two chairs were made there you can choose everything about the suite height width everything and the choice of fabric is amazing. But they don't come cheap ours was around £6k including a footstool
They are far better made than anything you may find on the high street.

I think that grey has become the new magnolia !
Every interior seems to have grey everywhere .
I loved it years ago , before it became so fashionable .
I think that will have to Google until you find an appealing colour .
I'm looking for green at the moment and the local charity shop is my first choice for looking !

Just a bit of support for grey! It is a good neutral colour which allows for colourful cushions, curtains and walls - just like our lounge!

We have 2 light grey tweedy looking Ercol sofas and an armchair. We also have a pale pink velvet armchair. Our walls are a dark raspberry colour, our curtains and some cushions are floral and some other cushions are bright pink.

We get lots of compliments.

A neutral coloured sofa allows you to change the mood of the room easily, with different coloured cushions, rugs, wall art, etc. In our sitting room (2 dark grey sofas) we have a large red Indian rug in the winter, with red velvet cushions, which makes it cosy. In warmer months, I have a large oatmeal rug, and colourful cushions.

Personally I'm not tired of grey yet either, but I'm glad to hear that brighter colours are re-appearing. I think it's nice to have a bit of individuality in the way we all decorate/ furnish.

Look at G Plan. They have a wide range of colour options. Yes, they are pricey, but I love my sofa, in a soft moss green. So comfy, electric footrest and built in phone chargers!

The sofas start at about £1,200 Rosie - if you choose one of their own fabrics.
If you buy Romo or Sandersons or whatever then the prices do rocket up.

They also have some floor models to sell off which are keenly priced.
If anyone's not too far away I think they are worth a trip.

I agree, I would like a bright coloured velvet 3/4 seater chesterfield and a 2 seater sofa bed chesterfield !

Try Delcor. North east company with brilliant after sales. I bought classic settees armchair and sofa stool about 30 years ago and they guarantee their frames for 50 years. I’ve had them reupholstered twice and also bought extra arm covers as DH reads newspapers and transfers the newsprint . I suppose I should get the butler to iron them ( as I gather that’s why they ironed newspapers)They have some gorgeous designs but I’ve stuck with classic shapes

I’ve never been one for being a sheep and following others or buying drab colours. When I was married we had all the regular colours grey etc because he would never agree with me lol my divorce sofa was yellow every time someone visited my house they would say wow not sure I would have that colour but it looks lush. My sofa I bought last year is teal with gold legs and gold metal pipping and gold cushions but you can add any colours with it. I spent days weeks looking for it but funny enough it was actually the first one I saw, my youngest said to his wife I bet my mum goes for that one and she said no way. They have a grey one with walls to match lol very dull

Many years ago when we were furnishing our first home we bought a suite from House of Fraser and when talking to my future bil, he asked what colour it was and my husband to be replied brown with hint of beige just like a farmers jacket. He put me off the furniture before it had even been delivered. Having said that it was the most comfortable sofa ever. Unfortunately both the store and the manufacturer have closed.

I've been looking for new seating for front room for 18 months now. Have 5 year old leather Recor sofa and two chairs and can honestly say that sofa has been sat on less than 20 times, chairs even less. Just do not like them. All I am ever offered in stores are plain fabrics. Hardly any tweeds or patterned fabric available. Still looking.

I get almost everything I own 2nd hand. The thrift store near me I believe you all call these places Charity Shops. They had a used sofa for 50.00 I looked it up and it was a $3000.00 sofa down cushions and I could order literally thousands of color/pattern choices for it because it was a slipcovered sofa. Have you considered slipcovers? For us slipcovers are perfect since we have dogs.

Like Stansgran I also have a Delcor sofa and chair. I looked at many retailers but also couldn’t find a colour I liked until a friend recommended Delcor. Their showroom is amazing and they offer a huge selection of colours. They have stores now in Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire & Cheshire.

Not sure if I’m allowed to name a company but we have bought a gorgeously comfortable olive green sofa from the vintage sofa company near Halifax,I’m afraid I don’t know how to post links but if you google them it comes up.
There fabulous old mill showroom is a riot of colours and super stylish but they are also a friendly company and don’t charge silly prices.

I'm with Primrose53, in that I hate the ubiquitous grey and love the green mustard peacock and even deep orange options. However, those may not be the style this person is looking for. The other thing to consider is that the huge outlay of the furniture, should you decide you've had enough in a short time, means it's not easy to change again. 'In' colours date very quickly. Sometimes it's good to find a neutral in a texture/fabric you like, then you can change the whole room easily by changing cushions lamps rugs vases etc

We were looking for new sofas a couple of years ago and couldn't find any we liked. One of them was an Ercol so looked at their fabrics with a view to recover it but the fabrics were very dull and it was almost the cost of buying the sofa again. In the end we went to a local upholstery firm with a huge range of fabrics and had both sofas recovered and some of the cushions replaced, great job and very reasonably priced.

I had a similar problem when we moved house and I needed a sofa for our television family room. I was totally uninspired until I found a brand new, deep red leather one in a charity shop. It is a 3 seat recliner and the charity delivered it for a small sum. We were so impressed, we went back and bought two brand new bedroom chairs as well. It’s worth looking in some of the charity shops that do house clearances.

My first sofa was grey, it went with everything but I can’t abide grey walls and curtains, it good we are all different.

So much grey. So much black. And the only alternative seems to be flat, dull brown.

Have furniture designers and manufacturers all had a colour imagination by-pass?

I despair.

I bought IKEA sludge brown sofas and then purchased some covers from Comfort Works in teal velvet - much better! Admittedly the cost of the covers was pretty much the same as the cost of the sofas, but I'm happy with the result.

I love grey and always have, for clothes and furniture, but I wouldn’t want grey walls. My entire house is painted white inside which, with grey carpets and sofas, provides a restful background. Colour comes from curtains with matching lightshades and the patchwork which suits an old cottage.

We had a bespoke one made, it didn't cost much more than any standard offering but it meant that we could get exactly what we wanted in terms of length, height and depth of seat. Also we could choose any fabric at all. We actually chose a pale grey blue velvet and have never regretted our choice as it is so comfortable and the perfect size.
