Car insurance

After a year of no claims it will probably start to come down again. Fingers crossed.

At least it was only a pheasant and not a person!
Be thankful also that he wasn't hurt. I'm thankful that my daughter is ok. She has just backed into a car in a car park (so her insurance as a new driver will rocket I expect) but the good news is that she didn't make an error on the motorway!

I have had to talk to Aviva recently and didn't have any problems. It did take a while in the queue though...

I think insurance is a racket! We have to have it yet if we dare to make a claim we spend ages jumping through hoops only to have our premiums rise if we dare to be successful!

My lodger was in a traffic accident a few months ago and though the car has been repaired, she's still waiting for physio for her whiplash injury which was supposed to be included.

My roof and ceiling repairs, yet to be done, are an open case with the insurers but I have given up hope of receiving a penny. They want more quotes and more photos despite sending the assessor, who took loads of pictures.
I just want my room back.

I’ve always referred to insurance as legalised fraud.

When an idiot drove into the side of my beloved elderly reliable Yaris 2 years ago, my insurance company couldn't have been more helpful. They were slow collecting the car and taking it away, but the valuation was what I expected and quickly paid.

Even as I gave them the details they told me it was a no fault accident for me. As I gave the location of the accident they had Google maps up and could see that my car was on the main road and the man who drove across the crossroads should have given way.

They also told me immediately that my car would be a write-off. It was nearly 20 years old, so even the moderate repairs it needed were more than its resale value, the effect on my insurance was minimal. They were a bit slow collecting the car from

You need to remember that car insurance rates have rocketted this year. This, not the accident, may be the reason your insurance has gone up so much

Doesnt help that my DH doesnt like to ring around much, and doesnt like me doing it myself. Grrr.

Mine is very expensive now I’m 75. I phoned round and did online searches. I decided to stay with my current well known insurer rather than save £100 by moving to some place I’ve never heard of

The car insurance isn’t too bad - now I’ve a bog-standard vehicle. It’s just choosing the right excess, etc. Thankfully, I’ve only had a couple of accidents which were not my fault and one which was, that I paid for myself - bumped my own wall!
It’s the house insurance that bugs me - always worried that I’ve ticked something I shouldn’t or haven’t ticked something I should and all the optional add-ons!!! Thank goodness it’s just once a year and most of the forms are pre-filled for me.

We live or rather I still live in an old house. We used to have Historic House insurance but they became excessive so we changed to NFU.
There was a gap between insurers so when a tree fell, hitting a neighbour's fence and his garden shed, we had no cover.
Disaster! But we employed a tree surgeon and a fencer to do the repairs and a friend and I replenished the neighbour's garden with shrubs and flowers. They were satisfied and the total cost for us was a lot less than the yearly premium.

Ofcourse we quickly speeded up our new insurance because the incident could have been much worse but it did go to show how enormous the bills are.

You don’t need to ring around , just use a site like compare the market . There are others . Just put your details in and you get loads of quotes . I use the current insurance details as a check list.
I’ve just done this with my house insurance but our existing company was cheaper . Direct line isn’t on a comparison site .

Grammaretto is it NFU you are having problems with? My friend has found them excellent for years - has made claims and say they were dealt with quickly and well!

I know you have had problems but am surprised it's NFU given her experience.
And that they want more kmages after sending someone out!!!

After doing three compare the market sites and endless quotes with Tesco, Saga, Churchill, Admiral to name a few I went with Aviva. It was £40 dearer than last year insurance with Liverpool Victoria, they were too dear this year, but costs have gone up so that’s done for another year. It just takes time shopping around. Have done my car DH car and house insurance all in the last few weeks!

No we gave up on NFU . They were too pricy and didn't help us when we were victims of vandalism so I am with Saga now who are notorious for not paying up. I'm told
