Well put. Knowing that people are discussing your illness, her shape, her clothes, her family etc. on SM, sometimes critically and unkindly is not conducive to anyone’s well-being.

Very wealthy people certainly do die of cancer. Despite having the best care available. Money does not buy health.

I think Catherine has been incredibly brave. How awful to have to tell the world. To be written about constantly in the press, social media endlessly peddling nonsense. My sister in US has seen comment that I won't repeat. And yes, I'm sure she doesn't read it but she has children. Children who are at school. Who knows what they are hearing. Also her much loved brother-in-law has shredded her to pieces in his interviews and book.

So yes, lots of money for best medical care but it doesn't guarantee success.

And she has to live with world wide attention.

I'm not denying anyone's feelings, I'm just saying I don't understand why someone would be distressed over someone else voicing an opinion about a famous person they don't know.

I wish Catherine well. She is a beautiful young lady with a fabulous family.

I think it was brave of Catherine to come out and announce to the world about her diagnosis and treatment, when she would probably have preferred to keep it all private.

The fact she can afford the best doctors, treatment and care, well, so can many other famous people.

I’m sure people like George Harrison, Linda McCartney had the best treatment available for their illnesses.

And I’m sure the Princess Of Wales is very aware of how fortunate she is in that respect, but how frightening it still must be.

My sympathy goes out to everybody who suffers cancer in any form. Find it galling that Kate is hailed as such a hero when so many others are suffering without the aid of the very best doctors and most expensive treatments available and lets face it if there's any way to have chemo and still keep your hair then she will have access to that treatment. I wish her and everybody suffering from this dreadful disease the very best.

I'm not a doctor but I do have experience of a family member having preventative chemo. Not too sure that people understand, it certainly is given during treatment for cancer.

Preventative or adjuvant chemotherapy plays a pivotal role in cancer care. By targeting residual cancer cells post-surgery, it serves as a crucial safeguard against disease recurrence, ultimately improving the prognosis for cancer patients.

Forums like this are all about opinions and speculation. I don't see how anyone could be 'distressed' about someone giving an opinion about a public figure when it doesn't affect them personally.

I think we all agree Helenlouise3 - they are just a family, like ours, going through scary times.
Most of us know what that feels like.

Whatever your opinion on the Royal Family, they're having a tough time, between Kate and King Charles. I wish them nothing but a speedy recovery

This is a "chat" forum.

Lots of us have probably thought it was a lot of treatment to be purely preventative.
Don't forget - preventing dpread is still preventative.

Iam yes we hear from many with different qualifications but
with this we are speaking of cancers, everyone is being positive

I think I agree with Anniebach on this one. It's getting very close to speculating, like on a thread a while back where a poster was thinking Louis might be autistic simply from his mannerisms.
We don't know what cancer Catherine has, and we shouldn't be giving opinions on the subject, doctor or not.

Annie -you make an interesting point but, we have many posters with expertise they bring to discussions. Surely we welcome this

Whatever type of cancer Kate has I hope the prognosis is good.

Mirren, I’m not a doctor but my experience of cancer in loved ones in recent years has had me reaching the same conclusion as you. It’s felt much more like treatment chemo than preventive. She’s a mother, daughter, wife first but such a positive asset to the royal family. She’s done so much imo to break down barriers and engage with members of the public. I pray she will fully recover

As a doctor I think this is much more serious than the anyone is saying.
She's having a lot of " preventive " chemo .
Feels more like treatment than preventive.
I hope it's just because she's a princess that they are going OTT.
Grateful her beautiful hair is still present.
Gives me hope as serious treatment for ovarian cancer ( most probable diagnosis in a young woman) causes serious hair loss

For Bumface - and others -- pretty much every week new processes are discovered which find cancers quicker, or at least predict folk likely to have a higher risk so they can be tested, even before they've detected a problem. And the early detection is key, to most of them.

More drugs are appearing, sometimes they've been developed for other illnesses but have been found to cure or at least alleviate a cancer, pretty much by accident.

Still some people will be diagnosed too late, and treatment is difficult, or only has a low chance of success, which will always be a shame.

But in general I think there is great cause for optimism. We thought Kate looked great (what a terrific outfit!) though even thinner than usual (no great surprise, given what she's going through). Lots of fingers Xed that her treatment and recovery keeps on going well.

I have just crocheted a hat for a friend who has lost her hair due to chemo.

Another friend (50) has just got the all clear. She was diagnosed just a week or so before Kate. She has had major surgery - just about everything removed inside plus many sessions of chemo but lost all her hair too.

Kate was very fortunate to keep her lovely hair because most people don’t.

I did have the thought that had Kate lost her hair because of her treatment she would have been able to have a beautiful hair piece made! However I really do believe that looks should not matter - it is healthy that matters - but we do live in a highly visual world nowadays. I wish her the very best - it would be good if one day she can share a little more.

Catherine really inspires my respect. Yesterday must have been a massive effort for her.
And that picture she took of William and the children for fathers day is just lovely.
