Received an email this morning from a well known greeting card from that I use. Why don’t these mistakes get noticed? I hate seeing this spelling mistake.

I’m also seeing “where” for “were “ - to a Scot, these sound quite different (just as we don’t have a Prince of Whales” ) 🤣🤣

Apologies for lowering the tone, but it really rouses my ire when Brits write ‘ass’ when they mean ARSE!

If it was good enough for Chaucer and Shakespeare….

There was a young girl from Madras
Who had the most wonderful ass
It was not round and pink,
As Americans would think,
It was grey, had long ears and ate grass

Sorry, just lowered the tone still further. I agree with you Witzend

It’s not exactly a spelling mistake, but because I’ve recently seen it twice elsewhere, ‘pack’ lunch, instead of ‘packED’! It really winds me up.

And while I’m at it, ‘mash’ potato, ‘ice’ coffee, etc.

Pronunciation annoys me too. A female news person yesterday kept talking about uz instead of us.Contra bute is one of my hates too.

Just browsing the Labour candidate’s leaflet that came through our door.

It says ‘Voting at a Poling Station?’

He doesn’t mention anything about education in his bumph though.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 21-Jun-24 08:29:55

Perhaps he should have had a private education.

Perhaps his parents (a) couldn’t afford it (b) chose not to use private education. The proof reader should be sacked.

Can’t you understand a joke? I didn’t have a private education either.

Have to confess to a wry smile and a temptation to a suitable reply every time a tradesman or IT guy types 'bare with me'!

keepcalmandcavachon Fri 21-Jun-24 13:17:09

I mostly notice my own, sometimes an official/business one makes me chuckle but hate? Bit sniffy 'bout those relish other's mistakes thoughgrin.

Definately and Pajamas instead of definitely and pyjamas are two I really hate.

Nvella Mon 24-Jun-24 18:34:36

Should of, could of, would of!

Witzend Tue 25-Jun-24 18:09:12

I’ve seen ‘discrete’ at least twice very recently, when the person meant ‘discreet’.
Not many people seem to know that the meanings are completely different.

I was inserting the who into my previous post kircubbin2000!
Thought I ought on a 'wordish' threadgrin

Witzend Wed 26-Jun-24 15:18:29

I know it’s often thought acceptable now, but I really hate ‘alright’.
And why is ‘anyways’ all over the place at the moment? Please remove that ‘s’ - thank you.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 26-Jun-24 15:43:58

I agree. I don’t like ‘anymore’ either.

TiggyW Wed 03-Jul-24 19:44:41

New Year’s and Valentine’s.
What happened to the Day?
Also unnecessary apostrophes!
Would of, etc.
