What spelling mistake do you hate/notice the most?

Surely the same rule applies as if the dog was called Fido.
It would require an apostrophe, Fido’s so as the dog is called It, it should be It’s.

It's not difficult. It's always means it is.

There is a dog called It who has a ball.
Whose ball is this?
It's Its ball.

But in this case - It being a name - I would have said
It’s It’s ball.

"Lightening" used for lightning just jumped out of a page at me 😉, a reference to "lightning bugs" from the US.

I'm not sure such errors are spelling errors. They seem more likely to be caused by a lack of understanding of words' meanings and derivations.

PIN number ie repeating the word ‘number’

These are all words of 'belonging'.

It wasn’t me who came up with the word Pantglas, I got detention after saying I’d just discovered what a stiffgit is. I think she thought I’d been up to something behind the bike sheds!

I often find in books that they use the metal name "lead" when they want to say something like someone "led the way" - "led" is the past tense of "to lead".

I think my bugbear (please note, not “bugbare” ) is “discrete”
but it’s a close run thing with “loose” (lose) and “advise” (advice)

As in” Qué” ?

Or “barbecue” becomes “barbeque “ ?

I loved ‘stiffgit’ Blossoming.

Nothing in the English language starts with N and ends in G.

I am much better at spelling than my AC but oh, how much better than me are they at technology. We all have our strengths and weaknesses but we can all still value a well- written and grammatically correct piece of writing.

Spell check is my go to ! Even then I make mistakes ,
If I notice a mistake I wouldn’t dream of posting a correction, even if I have to read the post a few times to make sense

You can be and do all that, but still get quietly irritated by endless basic mistakes, like loose/lose.

I’ve only ever corrected anyone once, and that was on another, largely male forum, when a poster had corrected someone else - and made a basic mistake in his own post!

I think the clue there is in your comment “quietly irritated” - ie a bit of a silent eye roll, and then moving on.

I’m a competent speller, but I would never dream of picking someone up on their spelling. Surely it’s just rude?

Good advice is nice, but you should be wise if you presume to advise.
