This really! Whether in UK or abroad. Speaking about accommadation, transport and basic subsistance. Not including drinks at the bar, entertainment etc.
When I was an academic and attended conferences everything was included except items I had decided upon for my pleasure or entertainmant - such as a theater visit or sightseeing trip. Alcohol was not usually covered but soft drainks/tea/coffee ok.
Staff had to pay their own hotel bill and claim back from the uni afterwards. However you could ask for an advance (cash and currency) which had to be fully accounted for by receipts and invoices.
Did you ever do a job where you had to pay some or part of your own expenses which were part of the role? Just read about a teacher going on a school trip abroad who had to pay £200 out of his own pocket and cannot claim it back.
Do people still stamp their feet in anger?
