No early bed tomorrow night!

I'm in bed with the TV on (Mr D isn't here) with a glass of wine - a rare treat for me as I don't drink usually. I've had joyful texts from my children. My daughter is delighted with the exit polls, tempered by a 'remember Brexit' warning from my more cautious son. I have a red top ready for my Zoom meeting tomorrow, too

I'll stay with Ch4 for as long as I can stay awake. It looks like it's all over bar the shouting now, but I'd like to see some actual results and announcements.

I live in a Tory heartland and not expecting anything to change although I’ve voted Labour for the first time since a one off in the seventies.

My family are cock a hoop with the exit polls and I hope they get what they wish for. My reasons for change are based on disillusionment and not with the cast iron certainty they have that there will be a huge change for the better.

I’m in bed, no glass of wine though Doodledog, and have the television on. Mr M is downstairs clearing the kitchen as the plasterers are here tomorrow. They did the dining room today. As you can see, I’m messing about on GN. Had a chat with one son tonight on FaceTime. He didn’t vote, naughty boy, I obviously went wrong somewhere 😂 His wife did though. So her mother got it right. Our other son will definitely have voted. Our daughter is in New Zealand and has more than enough on her plate with her difficult divorce and obstructive ex and so hasn’t given getting a vote from the other side of the world a thought.

Mr M just came upstairs and said to me guess what, we won’t know till tomorrow.
That means that after his shower he’ll get in bed and go to straight to 😴.

I'm already in bed. I used to stay up for hours in previous GE's but prefer my sleep these days. If I wake in the night I'll just check my phone.
But we know the result already don't we. Mixed feelings.

Sunderland is in. Labour win, but Reform did frighteningly well. Bridget Philipson is the first Cabinet Minister to be declared.

Bed as usual. Results can wait until the morning.

I wanted John Curtice to bring me something nice.

However, the exit poll says my constituency is 90+% likely to stay Tory, so we’ll have a parachuted in MP who lives 200 miles away.

Bah humbug.

Watched Channel 4 was very good with the exception of Nadine Dorries! She is really very weird and bitter. And they didn’t have any adverts, it was brilliant. No waffling as with the BBC or ITV!

Nope, won't be staying awake, just can't be bothered. I'll wait for the morning news.

Hats off to all the poll clerks who endured a 15 hour stint yesterday - I did it a couple of times. It’s a loooooong day. I’m glad ID is required now - I could never understand why it wasn’t introduced years ago.

Babamaman - Nadine Dorries was very weird. She was stroppy with everyone and sounded as though she’d been drinking! 🤔

I went to bed as usual, I can't bear a tv in the bedroom so waited until I woke up to check up on what had happened. Very disappointed that we are still lumbered with Cleverly in our constituency.

I watched all night, though I dozed off a couple of times. DD lives in Dubai so 3 hours ahead. She got up early to hear how it was going and we were WhatsApp messaging on and off for about an hour and celebrated the demise of JRM and Liz Truss! We then had a chat as she drove to work at 5am UK time! I had my first experience of proxy voting on her behalf this time and we are both happy with the results in the places that matter to us.

I would never dream of staying up to see Election results - the following day's morning news is time enough for me!

Stayed up with my sister (luckily she lives next door) to watch the results, live, until about 5am. It’s a bit of a tradition with us now - started in 1983 with Maggie Thatcher’s landslide.
Woke up at 11:15am.

Don't see any point myself. No matter how long you watch, or listen, the result will be the result. Another import from the USA?

No. Just different people doing things differently is all.

If anyone thinks the results will change because they are watching or not watching they need psychiatric help. Elections only have very five years or so though, and a lot of people take an interest. I have stayed up for as long as I can remember- certainly since I married in 1980 - nothing to do with the USA.

Election night is always exciting - you’re either elated or biting your nails. Time for a party or sit with your own anxiety waiting for news?

But I do agree with M0nica that the real news on returns seem to happen in the wee hours. I’m more inclined to go to bed really early then get up around 2:00-3:00 AM to take in moment. Or not sleep at all!

I can always go back to bed if I don’t like the results!

I was up until about 4.30, slept until about 6, watched more results, back to bed again for a while at 8. Missed J R-M losing his seat, alas, though they did rehash later.
BTW, I don’t why anyone should think it’s a ‘US import’ - I always have, whenever at all possible.

I went to bed after the exit poll, got up at 3 and saw most of the exciting bits. Yesterday I felt fine, just a bit tired, but today I’ve got a head like a bucket despite taking paracetamol. I may rethink my overnighter strategy for the next election.
