They would be wiser to either persuade him to stay, or appoint a caretaker, for a lengthy period to oversee a carefully considered strategy for how the Tories can best be an effective opposition and position themselves for a credible chance of re-election in 5 years.

I only vote because it is my duty to do so. Like many others, I vote to keep certain people out, not to get anyone in particular in.
I don’t think it makes much difference who wins. They are all full of promises they don’t keep. I fear for this country that it seems impossible to find anyone who can actually lead. It’s frightening!

I’ve just heard in the news that KS is being likened to Tony Blair. That didn’t end well!

I absolutely agree with you.

The problem is that policies drawn up in constituencies and discussed in meeting rooms are fine, until they have to be implemented in the real world.

You start to implement your policies and wham, there is a world pandemic. Over that? Watch out, here comes a major war that you cannot avoid. Then, no matter how virtuous your fiscal management is, the USA, or Europe, or somewhere causes a financial crisis.

The next stage is Realpolitik.

Listening to Ch 4 early this morning someone said that the rump of Tory MPs left are to the left. We shall have to wait and see.

He wasn't handed anything. He fought tooth and nail - twice - to get the leadership/become PM, presumably because he thought he’d be good at it, which shows a remarkable lack of self-awareness.

He was a decent and serious young man. We were all glad of him during lockdown. I don't like to see him denigrated. There are far worse than him.

Fancythat Sunak isn't the Conservative party and he had to contend with a party in disarray for the whole time he was PM. I'm not a fan of Sunak and he may have been the best of a bad lot at the time. The Tories were too busy fighting amongst themselves to actually govern.

Charisma isn’t exactly what this country needs at this moment in time. Imo

He doesnt have Blairs goodwill either which might be a problem. People are cautious in their hope I think.

I don't see KS as being like to Tony Blair, he was charismatic, charming and clever. KS is a very different kettle of fish.

Aveline I so agree. She wasn’t my MP, but was the MP for the constituency where I used to work. She’s a strong and responsible woman. I knew the person who has replaced her and I’m not impressed. She was all talk and no action when she worked as the NUT representative in the area where I worked, and was useless when there was a problem in my school.
